The Power of Poetry

🎉 Birthday

It’s an invitation

It’s an invitation to birth. By contrasting light and dark, water and earth, we contemplate selfhood about others in a world that offers us many versions of what it means to be alive. Who are you when you’re born? Who are you when you’re awake? Who are you when you’re in love?

It’s your birthday.

But it’s not enough to birth. We need to be born;

we need to be awoken by the sun shining on the water at dawn or when a dry leaf falls into a puddle and creates a brief ripple of sound and a pearl of light. Birth is more than just birthdays or new years. It’s possible every day if we’re brave enough.

You’re born every day with each moment.

It’s the time when you embrace your courage to embrace the world within.

The moment is always new.

Birthday is not a given state of being but an act of taking everything about us and making it our own. Since we’re born, there are no limits to what we can become or be…

We are born naked, with a soft body and an open mind. So we need to take our time and wait for the right moment to grow up. Sometimes waiting until we’re ready to accept responsibility or until there is enough love that can last a lifetime. Sometimes waiting until we’ve learned that there’s nothing more painful than letting go.

This moment can be difficult when the world has created expectations and demands on us because we are no longer seen as children. Instead, we’re seen as someone who can handle this life with grace, beauty, intelligence, and elegance. Someone who didn’t just have their first new year’s wish come true, but someone who’s been given the possibility to do it even more multiple times.

We’re exposed to a world full of people, places, and things that can help or hinder our growth. It’s at this moment when we start becoming free.
