“Bird Brain” Is a Compliment, Don’t You Know?
Six Word Photo Story: Freestyle
I gots more sense than you.
The dove in the lead picture kept me company on the balcony of my 16th- floor hotel room.
“Hi, Baby,” I crooned.
The dove looked up and met my eyes. Then it came closer. It began to peck the ground near my feet. But there was no food there.
So I went inside and brought out a potato chip. I broke it up and scattered the pieces on the concrete. The dove pecked at the crumbs but didn’t seem enthused.
It had better sense than to eat a greasy potato chip. Not so “bird-brained” after all.
“Don’t look at me like that,” I said to the dove. “I was hungry.”
On the Oahu island, in Hawaii, I have seen more pigeons and doves in one hour than in an entire month in Texas. Here, they seem unafraid of humans.
Yesterday, hubby and I tried an outdoor eatery. There were doves — and a couple of chunky pigeons — walking in between and under the tables. They did a stand-up job as the eatery’s cleaning crew.
I dropped a bit of potato and a dove rushed under the table. It stepped delicately over my bare toes to get to the tidbit. After scarfing down the potato, the dove came out from under the table. Then it waited.
Patiently.
It seemed to be well-acquainted with the proverb: Good things come to those who wait.
I dropped a piece of naan on the way out.
