Summary

Sam, who prefers a relaxing vacation, finds himself engaging in thrilling activities planned by his girlfriend Stacy, leading to an accident that makes him question the importance of love.

Abstract

Sam is apprehensive about his vacation because his girlfriend Stacy has planned an array of adventurous activities, which contrasts with his ideal of simply enjoying a beer in a hammock. Despite his initial reluctance, Sam surprisingly enjoys parasailing and even salsa dancing. However, a shark-diving excursion results in a hospital visit with a lacerated arm, prompting Sam to reassess his relationship and the role of love in his life. This reflection is captured in a 100-word drabble, part of the "100 Story Challenge" by Zane Dickens the Instigator, and published on Medium. The author, Eva MacInnes, invites readers to engage with her work, offering opportunities to follow her writing, subscribe to her stories, and support her through buying her a coffee.

Opinions

  • The author presents Sam's initial vacation preference as low-key and relaxed, highlighting a contrast with Stacy's adventurous plans.
  • Despite Sam's reservations, the narrative suggests that stepping out of one's comfort zone can lead to enjoyable experiences, as seen with the parasailing and dancing.
  • The accident during the shark dive introduces a moment of introspection, implying that love's value might be reassessed in the face of danger or inconvenience.
  • The inclusion of a word prompt and the "100 Story Challenge" indicates the author's engagement with creative writing communities and challenges.
  • Eva MacInnes's invitation for reader interaction and the provision of links to her other works demonstrate a desire to build a readership and community around her writing.
  • The author's self-description as a writer, artist, and freelance editor, along with the option for readers to buy her a coffee, suggests a personal investment in her craft and a welcoming of support from her audience.

Beer and a Hammock

Sam was dreading his vacation…

Thank you to Crush Hundo Edition. Today’s word prompt is HOLIDAY.

Sam was dreading his upcoming vacation. His girlfriend Stacy went a little overboard when it came to activity planning. He was happy with a beer and a hammock.

Stacy had them parasailing, salsa dancing and shark diving. And jumping in a cage to taunt nature’s greatest predator was far removed from Sam’s idea of fun.

But he loved Stacy.

The parasailing was thrilling. And despite his two left feet, he actually enjoyed the dancing.

But as he laid in the hospital room with his lacerated arm on a cot next to him, he started to rethink how important love was.

This 50th drabble is written as part of the “100 Story Challenge” by Zane Dickens the Instigator.
