WELLBEING

You Need Fresh Air! Here’s Why…

Learn how to prioritise taking breaks and getting outside.

There are so many proven health benefits of walking outside and we should learn how to prioritise taking breaks and getting outside but we often don’t…

Busy schedules and hectic home lives leave many of us stuck inside and not getting outside out as much as we’d like to, or as much as we should.

Here’s why getting outside can improve both your physical and mental wellbeing:

Energy Booster

Getting outside will improve your concentration, you’ll feel brighter and more focused after inhaling the fresh air.

The more oxygen that goes to your brain will result in greater brain functioning by making you feel revived.

To better your work performance, make sure you take regular breaks.

Stress Relief

There will always be days where you feel there is too much going on, you work through your lunch, forget to make dinner and before you know it you’re exhausted and crawling into bed — we’ve all been there.

Taking yourself out of that situation for just 5 minutes will really help clear your mind.

Stop what you’re doing right now (well finish reading the rest of the benefits) and then take yourself outside for a 5–10 minute stroll.

It’s important to get yourself outside even if it’s just a few minutes a day… it’ll do you the world of good!

Fresh air is scientifically proven to reduce your stress levels, even more so if you spend that time in nature.

Natural Vitamin D

This benefit is more for the summer months but that doesn’t mean you should avoid leaving the house during the winter.

Venturing out in the sun will help you produce vitamin D, which supports your immune system and keeps your bones, teeth and muscles strong too.

It’s not possible for your body to produce Vitamin D by itself so spending some time in the sunshine will.

Stronger Lungs

Taking in fresh air has been proven to strengthen your lungs and therefore increase your lung capacity.

This will allow you to breathe easier and stay healthier longer.

Improved Sleep

When you’ve exercised your body wants to recover and therefore getting out for a daily walk will improve your sleeping pattern.

In addition to that, exposing yourself to natural light will help your body to calibrate its internal clock signalling your brain so we know when we should be awake and when we should be sleeping.

You may think it’s impossible if you’ve got loads of work to get through but everyone deserves a break. Go outside right now, breathe in the fresh air and take in all of those health benefits.

Your mind and body will thank you.
