Ekphrastic Poem
Aubergine Visions
Of a Crystal Ever-After

Lilac moonlight Drips from silken eyelashes Fingertips flit through Indigo tresses Doused in star shine Engulfed Swallowed from the Inside A kaleidoscopic Fractal display Of sensual abundance Races my mind Words form and play Screaming in the hollow High pitched echoing Of a younger self I can’t quite remember hearing I know There’s sound somewhere Hiding in the rafters Like Orchids dangling Yards above the ground Waves bouncing Reverberating Never reaching these Burgundy ears Freezing in the cold open Unable to force air From my lungs Through paralyzed chords So I slink Disconcerted From scene to scene Melting, tumbling down The trickling time stream Like a rabbit down a hole Icy, cold, and rock beaten Blurry blobs dance before Amethyst eyes Fading, consumed By the inky gloom Closing in on the Edges of my vision This heavy weakness A cloying sweetness Like a glaze Oozing A malaise stealing My light and breath Frigid waters Embracing Enveloping my Essence Crystalizing Unto death

I ended up with the image at the top when generating images for another project. I was trying to get a repeating pattern and did get one, which I used to make a banner for the top of my newsletter. Not before it kicked out, a few really fun ones like this.
It has an obvious Alice in Wonderland influence, and in keeping with the tangential generation, I didn’t want to focus on that aspect with my writing. I gravitated towards the crystals and the color for inspiration, even if I threw a couple of nods in.
This is meant to give it a dream-like quality, sending us on this dreamy journey with our Alice stand instead of simply creating an homage filled with references to the original. Not that homage and references are bad. That is the foundation of all of my jokes, at least all the ones anyone has ever laughed at.
