They are the least complex of all animals, lacking true tissue or organs. Still, they are considered animals as they are multicellular and produce sperm cells. Also, being animals, they do not have cell walls, nor do they create their own food. Instead, they acquire nutrients from the water that flows through their bodies.

The thing is, sponges don’t seem much like animals in that they don’t move around much. The earlier fossils of an animal possessing bilateral symmetry date from around 555 million years ago. According to Wikipedia:

The bilateria or bilaterians are animals with bilateral symmetry as an embryo, i.e. having a left and a right side that are mirror images of each other. This also means they have a head and a tail (anterior-posterior axis) as well as a belly and a back (ventral-dorsal axis).

The Kimberella from 555 million years ago— Image Credit

The Kimberella has several signs pointing to it being a mollusk or at least being very mollusk-like at 555 million years ago. It seems safe to say that the arthropods evolved out of something mollusk-like. The Helcionellids, which are clearly mollusks with snail-like shells, appeared over 540 million years ago.

The earliest fossilized trilobites date from around 530 million years ago. So aquatic arthropods are not the earliest animals to have been found, though they are given the distinction of being among the animals associated directly with the Moon. Mollusks were earlier and the proto-sponges were the earliest, though they hardly seem to count as animals, except for all those features listed four paragraphs above, which technically define what an animal is.

The sea sponge and all other animals share a common ancestor, but that ancestor was just an earlier sponge-like filter-feeder lacking any complex organs. This means that all animals came from sponge-like filter-feeder organisms, just as later all vertebrates would originate from another filter feeder, an ancestor of today’s water squirt.

Read more about this day here.

Jupiter Day

Speaking of vertebrates:

20 And God saith, ‘Let the waters teem with the teeming living creature, and fowl let fly on the earth on the face of the expanse of the heavens.’ 21 And God prepareth the great monsters, and every living creature that is creeping, which the waters have teemed with, after their kind, and every fowl with wing, after its kind, and God seeth that it is good. 22 And God blesseth them, saying, ‘Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and the fowl let multiply in the earth:’ 23 and there is an evening, and there is a morning — day fifth. So this day includes five aquatic classes, two of which are extinct, under ‘fish’, amphibians and reptiles under ‘great monsters’ and finally birds under ‘birds’.

So here’s the thing I was getting at before on Mercury day. The earliest animal was the proto-sponge, which eventually developed into something mollusk-like which led to mollusks, arthropods, and other less well-known phyla.

These later animals all belong to a glade called Protostomes. In their embryonic form, the mouth is formed first while the anus is formed last. Protostomes (from proto- “first” and stoma “mouth”) comprise over a million species currently alive.

The opposite glade of the Deuterostome (from deutero- “second” and stoma “mouth”) is formed anus first. This group was originally made up of the Echinodermata (starfish, sea urchins, sea cucumbers) and another even less interesting phylum.

The animals with a backbone did not evolve from the same line as the mollusks and arthropods and other Protostomes. They came instead from the Deuterostomes from something much like today’s sea squirt.

Blue spot sea squirt — Image Credit

Sea squirts attach themselves to rocks, large shells, or whatever. Then they filter water in through one hole and out another, drawing food and oxygen from the sea.

Features of a tunicate — Image Credit

The sea squirt has a larval stage when it looks like a giant sperm cell or a tadpole. It is during this stage that it swims around “looking” for a spot to anchor. I use “looking” with quotation marks because it has only a primitive set of sensors and nerves which are hardwired to find a suitable place on which to attach itself for the rest of its life.

Features of a tunicate larva — Image Credit

Once a larva finds the right spot, it attaches its face to the surface and begins to metamorphose into the adult form of the sea squirt. This metamorphosis involves losing the tail, the notochord, and the nerve cord.

Tunicate chordate — Image Credit

That is where the vertebrates got their start. The larvae developed into a form that no longer latched onto a rock on the ocean floor and matured into an immobile sea squirt. Instead, the larvae attached themselves to the bodies of other animals. Another mutation locked the larval sea squirt into its larval form permanently. It was no longer a filter feeder, it now fed on the blood of its hosts.

Lake trout with sea lampreys attached — Image Credit

It was from these jawless fishes that the entire vertebrate line evolved. Astrology and the Seven Days of Genesis

What one has to do with the other

Photo by James Lee on Unsplash

My last few articles have been focused on examining the seven days of Biblical Genesis by means of several apparently unrelated systems. These systems are the I-Ching, astrology, and the close-packing of equal spheres.

In my previous article, I went through the seven days as decrypted through sphere packing. This article is going to use astrology as a key to the text, with a bit of sphere packing thrown in where relevant.

The Basics of Astrology

When people hear the term astrology, they think of the popularised form as found in periodicals that tell you how your day will be based on your Sun sign, which is shared by about 8% of the population.

This article is not concerned with astrology as a system of fortune-telling, but rather as a system for encrypting information. At the same time, I’m fairly certain that it is astrology’s use as a system of divination that has ensured that it has come down to us with its traditions intact.

Astrology in its traditional form has two major components. These are planets and signs. The astrology of the ancients used seven planets, excluding Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto which had not been discovered yet. Do note that the term ‘planet’ means ‘’wanderer’ which referred to their behavior of wandering across the background of the fixed stars and it included both the Sun and the Moon.

Each planet rules one or two signs each. The planets that appear to the naked eye as two-dimensional circles rule one sign, while those that appear as one-dimensional points rule two signs. In the diagram below, the eight symbols arranged horizontally symbolize the planets, which includes the Earth at the bottom. The colored lines show which planet rules each sign.

My image

The planetary symbols are arranged in the order of the week beginning with Sunday, excluding the symbol for the Earth at the bottom. Sunday is followed by Monday. Tuesday in French is Mardi, in Spanish it's Martes. Mars day.

Wednesday in Italian is Mercoledì, in Spanish it’s Mercredi. Mercury Day. Thursday in French is Jeudi. Jupiter Day. Friday in French is Vendredi, Venus Day. Saturday is Saturn Day.

Each day corresponds to a planet. Each planet rules one or two signs, excluding the Earth. These signs represent biological forms of life associated with the day.

As to the logic behind the assignment of lifeforms to signs I will provide links to the relevant articles.

Sunday

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. (Gen 1:3–5 KJV)

First, we come to Sunday, when God created light. Remember that originally the first day of the week was Sunday and that the Sabbath was on Saturday.

Sun — Credit

Starting with Sunday, we see that the Sun rules Leo. The main quality associated with Leo is the need to be the center of attention, to be in the limelight. We can see how this quality is connected to the Sun. This is a simple description of photosynthetic cyanobacteria. You can read about how it corresponds to this day here and here.

Let us assume for a moment that we are using this Bible study as an opportunity to educate. At this point, we won’t deviate from the scientific consensus. We will provide commentary for the teacher as though we are continuing along from the lesson on ball packing to this lesson on astrology.

Around four and a half billion years ago, the Sun entered the main sequence as a stable yellow dwarf.

After that, the Earth went through some changes during which it gained a Moon, but at this lesson’s current level of complexity, deeper than ball-packing, but not as deep as the I-Ching, we don’t need to mention planetary collisions.

We are going to keep everything as simple as possible while still exploring the educational possibilities.

According to the geological record, a Snowball Earth event occurred between 2.4 billion years ago to 2.1 billion years ago. Known as the Huronian glaciation, this event was triggered by cyanobacteria flooding the environment with oxygen. The Earth’s early atmosphere was thick with methane. The methane had been keeping the Earth’s temperature above freezing; however, when oxygen and methane are combined, they transform into water and carbon dioxide. Methane and carbon dioxide are both greenhouse gasses, but methane is 84 times more effective at heating the atmosphere than carbon dioxide.

Once methane was removed from the atmosphere due to the huge amount of oxygen produced by cyanobacteria, the planet entered a cooling phase, which resulted in a 300 million-year ice age. There is ample evidence, though no direct fossil evidence, of anoxygenic life existing before cyanobacteria. Anoxygenic bacteria use an alternative form of photosynthesis that produces elemental sulfur instead of oxygen as a waste product. Thanks to the highly reactive nature of oxygen, most of this early life, which evolved in a low oxygen environment, died out. According to Wikipedia:

The Great Oxidation Event (GOE), sometimes also called the Great Oxygenation Event, Oxygen Catastrophe, Oxygen Crisis, Oxygen Holocaust, or Oxygen Revolution, was a time period when the Earth’s atmosphere and the shallow ocean experienced a rise in oxygen, approximately 2.4 billion years ago (2.4 Ga) to 2.1–2.0 Ga during the Paleoproterozoic era. Geological, isotopic, and chemical evidence suggests that biologically produced molecular oxygen (dioxygen, O2) started to accumulate in Earth’s atmosphere and changed Earth’s atmosphere from a weakly reducing atmosphere to an oxidizing atmosphere, causing many existing species on Earth to die out. The cyanobacteria producing the oxygen caused the event which enabled the subsequent development of multicellular forms.

Before the Huronian glaciation, all life that we have direct fossil evidence of was of the prokaryote sort. Prokaryotes are single-cell organisms that lack a membrane-bound nucleus and mitochondria. The word means “before” and “kernel.” They are made up of two domains: Archaea and Bacteria. For our purposes, we can ignore the archaea and consider the bacteria of which cyanobacteria is a member. It was cyanobacteria that brought about the poisoning of the ecosystem with oxygen. Following the Huronian glaciation, a new form of cellular life exploded onto the scene. Eukaryotes.

Eukaryotes have cells with a membrane-bound nucleus. The name means “good” and “kernel.” In the old two-domain classification system, prokaryotes comprise all bacteria, while eukaryotes are all other forms of life.

Let’s do a quick review for this day. The Sun started burning nice and steady around four and a half billion years ago. Fossils from around three and a half billion years show that cyanobacteria were growing and spreading. There were other kinds of bacteria as well, such as purple sulfur bacteria, which is photosynthetic bacteria that produces (surprise) sulfur instead of oxygen as a waste byproduct.

Then from around 2.4 to 2.1 billion years ago, the oxygen waste from cyanobacteria threw the planet into a 300 million year ice age which eliminated much of the simple prokaryotic life, except for cyanobacteria, and cleared the way for the more complex eukaryotic life to dominate which, before the Huronian glaciation, existed on the fringes only.

That‘s my idea of keeping it simple for Bible Study.

Monday

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. (Gen 1:6–8 KJV)

Then comes Monday, or rather Moon Day. Sunday was about the Sun and the lifeform that developed in response to the energy that the Sun was emitting.

Monday is about the life that developed in response to the energy, in the form of oxygen, that the cyanobacteria were releasing.

This new form of life used that oxygen to fuel its active lifestyle, unlike cyanobacteria. That old nasty algae just laid around and basked in the sunlight, dividing and reproducing until a green carpet of tasty slime had spread from horizon to horizon.

This new form of life had to work for a living. It couldn’t just absorb energy from the sun. It had to eat. The algae it grazed on was tasty, but the meat from other animals was even better.

Moon /Cancer — Credit/Credit

Astrologically, the Moon rules Cancer, the crab.

I feel that it is more accurate to make Cancer represent a trilobite, or perhaps aquatic arthropods, which includes trilobites, crustaceans, and aquatic insects.

But let’s take things back down to the level of the three balls rolling together and add the aquatic arthropod to the equation. First of all, what is an arthropod?

The name: arthro meansjoint” and pod means “foot”. According to Wikipedia:

An arthropod is an invertebrate animal having an exoskeleton, a segmented body, and paired jointed appendages.

Mars Day

9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13 And the evening and the morning were the third day. (Gen 1:9–13 KJV)

Scorpio is the scorpion, which is the earliest dryland arthropod.

The glyph for Aries is morphologically similar to a seedling.

Scorpio represents dryland arthropods and Aries is dryland plants. This is the algae from day one and the aquatic arthropods from day two getting a lift to dryland on day three. Read more about this day here.

Notice how the Biblical account includes plants but not insects. Notice also how the astrological key makes insects, or rather, dryland arthropods explicit, which Aries requires decoding. When the Bible and the zodiac are brought together, the fragmented accounts are made whole.

Mercury Day

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. (Gen 1:14–19 KJV)

Mercury — Image Credit

This day is all about the rational mind and the clear-sighted eye.

Mercury rules Gemini the Twins and Virgo the Virgin.

Virgo — Image Credit

Virgo is the mind’s introverted organizational side made manifest in the oyster.

We can step back from the sequence and see that these days began as clearly defined sequential stages, with the creation of light and the separation of water, up to and including the raising of dryland. Yet, once we reach Mercury Day, the idea of a sequence falls apart and each day becomes more a category of life.

A deep ocean glass sponge — Image Credit

For instance, 750 million years ago, something similar to the modern sea sponge was the first of all animals. The proto-sponge. As nearly all sponges are hermaphrodites, the proto-sponge was both the father and mother of every animal that was to follow.

Diagram of a syconoid sponge — Credit

On the evolutionary tree of life, sea sponges occupy the first branch from the common ancestor of all animals, the proto-sponge.

(Gen 1:20–23 YLT)

Jupiter is the planet of abundance and good luck. On this day God created oceans full of fish and great monsters as well as skies full of birds.

Actually, if you read verse twenty-one carefully it also mentions some creeping creatures in the waters. These undoubtedly include aquatic arthropods and mollusks. The arthropods would instead be classified with Moon Day, just as the mollusks should be grouped under Mercury Day.

Jupiter — Credit

Astrologically this day rules the signs Pisces and Sagittarius.

Pisces — Credit/Photo by Sebastian Pena Lambarri on Unsplash

Pisces is literally the word for fish, while Sagittarius is a centaur archer, whose arrows correspond to birds in flight.

Also, it must be noted this includes the variety of life forms in between these two extremes such as amphibians and reptiles.

Here is a diagram to better help visualize the extent of this day.

Credit

So this day includes everything from the disgusting Agnatha superclass up to birds, excluding the little mouse on the far left representing all mammals.

Jupiter rules almost all vertebrates. From the larval form of a sea squirt that grew to love the taste of blood. To the fish in the seas, and the birds in the heavens including all the forms in-between but stopping short of mammals.

Venus Day

24 And God saith, ‘Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its kind:’ and it is so. 25 And God maketh the beast of the earth after its kind, and the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, and God seeth that it is good. 26 And God saith, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them rule over fish of the sea, and over fowl of the heavens, and over cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that is creeping on the earth.’ 27 And God prepareth the man in His image; in the image of God He prepared him, a male and a female He prepared them. 28 And God blesseth them, and God saith to them, ‘Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over fish of the sea, and over fowl of the heavens, and over every living thing that is creeping upon the earth.’ (Gen 1:24–28 YLT)

Astrologically Venus rules Taurus and Libra.

Taurus is the sign of breeding for good stock, while Libra is the sign of seduction and romance between men and women.

Taurus symbolizes all mammals, while Libra represents man and woman. Both of these realms are ruled by Venus.

Just as Jupiter rules the fish below and the birds above.

Just as Mercury rules the mollusks with the extroverted octopus at one pole and the introverted oyster at the other.

Just as Mars rules the towering trees above and the battling insects crawling, climbing, and buzzing around.

The Moon is the mother of all animal life, while the Sun is the light that powers the engine of life.

Saturn Day

1 And the heavens and the earth are completed, and all their host; 2 and God completeth by the seventh day His work which He hath made, and ceaseth by the seventh day from all His work which He hath made. 3 And God blesseth the seventh day, and sanctifieth it, for in it He hath ceased from all His work which God had prepared for making. (Gen 2:1–3 YLT)

Saturn is the planet of karma, hard work, and old age. Capricorn is supposedly a mythical sea goat creature. I believe that the goat part, at least, is meant to represent an old woman. I base this on the similarities between the way some goats grow beards, and the way some women, post-menopause, grow excess facial hair.

In other words, grannies.

Saturn rules grannies and granddads. Or rather Capricorn and Aquarius.

Capricorn is the sign of common sense. It is the logic of doing it this way because this is the way it has always been done. It is the sign associated with conservative small-town thinking.

Aquarius is the sign of wisdom. It is about examining data from new perspectives, applying lessons learned in one field to other unrelated fields through a constant process of experimentation and learning.

These are the days and the life they rule.

Sunday: photosynthetic algae.

Monday: all animal life, specifically aquatic arthropods (crustaceans, insects, and trilobites).

Tuesday (Mars): dryland plants and dryland arthropods.

Wednesday (Mercury): all mollusks, specifically cephalopods (octopi) and bivalves.

Thursday (Jupiter): all non-mammalian vertebrates, specifically fish and birds.

Friday (Venus): mammals and human couple.

Saturday: senior men and woman

The decrypted account differs from the unaltered Biblical account in that no life of any sort is mentioned until Day Three when plants are created.

The next mention of life is on Day Five when all aquatic life is made together with birds and I guess flying insects as well.

Day Six is all dry land animal life, including reptiles, non-flying insects, mammals, and humans.

The Biblical account appears to be exactly what one would expect “a bunch of ignorant goat-herders” to come up. A simplistic explanation of the origin of the world and the life it carries.

It is only when the biblical text is combined with the forbidden key that its true message is revealed.
