Are You Aware of the Advantages of Working in an Office?
How working in an office environment can affect your productivity
My topic may sound silly because many people are already working from home. With technology, we can work through a laptop or a touchscreen tablet. Hence the requirement of working in an office is an option.
Mine is a hybrid arrangement where I can work from home or the office. I returned to the office today and observed some advantages of working in an office. Let me share my observations:
1. You do not feel so alone
Working from home gives everyone a sense of flexibility, but the flip side is that you can feel detached from everyone else. Sometimes, when you encounter difficulties or issues, finding help or support in the office is much faster.
2. You may be encouraged by the sight of others
Seeing others at work can be a source of motivation. You will become more focused on your tasks because you can see others working too.
3. Speed of printing is faster
In an office setting, printers generally print faster than the printers we use at home. For example, printing in the office is faster if you have to print a document with multiple pages.
4. You minimise snacking
It is a massive advantage if you are trying to manage your weight. Most people would have various snacks or biscuits at home, and you may eat more than you should. Eating too many snacks may cause our weight to increase.
5. You save on your energy bill
If you work from home, usually the aircon is turned on during the day. If we work in the office, we save money on our household utility bills.
6. You feel more energetic in the office
Working from home can sometimes be a little too flexible that we work on our beds and may doze off. When you get dressed up and sit at the office, you will not face that temptation; instead, you could feel more energetic.
7. You can have instant interaction with your colleagues
In an office, you can interact at the pantry or even at someone’s desk. Some small talk is always possible, and you know whether it is a good time since you can visibly see what others are doing.
8. You have an uncluttered desk
Most offices have a concept of hot-desking, and any desk you use will likely be tidy. With a clean desk, you can focus on your task better.
Working from home will require you to make a call to have some interactions, yet you may not know whether it is the right time to call someone.
Your experience in working at an office may differ from mine. Of course, in closing, I want to iterate that working from home also has certain advantages. Depending on how you respond, some will do better in an office environment, while others may be better at home. Or maybe a hybrid kind of arrangement like mine.
