Answering TBIN May Prompt Questions

While listening to Deja Vu by Olivia Rodrigo on repeat

Before I get into the questions, I will let you in on a little secret. I started a challenge where I am supposed to submit to 30 publications in 30 days.

I only have enough time to write one story per day, and I’ve become emotionally attached to some of the publications I’ve already been published in. Like The Brain is a Noodle.

So I’m revising my original rules. I can now submit to the same publication more than once if I want to. It’s more important to me to write and publish 30 stories than for them to be in 30 different publications.

Now onto the scheduled programming.

May Interview Questions

Here is a direct link to the original post if you want to answer these questions. This has the full list, so you can copy and paste the questions right over.

Thank you, Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她), for creating this prompt!

[1] What did you like to do most when you were 10? They say that this hobby is likely what brings you the most joy in life — is this something you still do?

I loved to read and draw when I was 10. I had a wild imagination back then. I was always outside building bird nests, exploring the backyard, and being chaotic.

The books that really got me into reading were the Babysitter’s Club Little Sister series. I also loved the Goosebumps books. I would go to the library, take out seven at a time, and then read them in a few days.

I still love to read, although now it comes in waves. I spend too much of my free time on YouTube these days. I’ve started watching Booktubers like Jack Edwards, which mixes my YouTube and book-loving worlds.

I still like to draw, but not as often as when I was younger. I would tell people I wanted to be an artist in middle school when I grew up.

The last drawing project I did was illustrating my book Ocean Breath: A Poetry Book. That was a cool experience, and I hope to do another project this year.

[2] What genres do you write? Why do you choose to write with these types of structures? What’s attractive about them?

I started journaling when I was in third grade. Someone gave me a diary as a gift, and I kept up with it on and off over the years. I still journal when I feel the need to sort through my thoughts.

In college, I studied creative writing with a focus on fiction. I thought I would only ever write YA fiction and nothing else.

Now I mostly write poetry and non-fiction. Non-fiction comes easiest since I draw from my own experiences while writing. And poetry usually comes out when I’m feeling emotionally charged.

I’m still playing with writing structures for all of my writing. Reading a lot helps me learn new ideas to try out.

[3] What’s your all-time favorite childhood TV show?

I loved Rocket Power, The Wild Thornberrys, and Rugrats when I was a kid.

[4] Pick one sense and tell us about the most relaxing thing you do in relation to that sense.

Smell. I love to light a candle at night before bed while I read. It completely relaxes me.

It’s fun to start a new candle during a new chapter of my life. If I move to a new place or it’s a new year, I try to start a new candle. That way, I can associate that smell with that part of my life.

[5] Who is someone you want to connect more with this month? How might you go about doing this?

I want to connect more to my online writing community on Medium and Instagram. For Medium, I plan on writing and posting daily. I also want to read as many stories as possible and leave comments for people.

Instagram is an ongoing struggle for me. I overthink posting and give up on it too often. Right now, I’m not posting much on my page, but hopefully, I can get back into it.

This or that?

Bold your choice!

  • olive oil or butter
  • e-books or physical books
  • libraries or bookstores
  • noodles or rice
  • messy desk or organized desk
