An Online Multiplayer Harry Potter Game Was Just Announced

I’m sure many fans will be happy to hear that this game will be all about Quidditch.

In a couple of previous posts, I spoke about Hogwarts Legacy. These will be linked at the end of this post, In this post, I will talk about the recent news on an upcoming online Harry Potter Quidditch game.

The Recent Harry Potter Game

Before I get into the recent news on this new Harry Potter game, I’ll briefly touch on the recent Harry Potter game titled Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy is an action role-playing video game that takes players into the world of Harry Potter.

Developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the game offers an open-world interpretation of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the surrounding landmarks.

Players assume the role of a Fifth Year transfer student who receives an invitation to Hogwarts, gets a fast-track magic education, and participates in the enrollment ceremony and class sorting.

However, things go awry, and the adventure begins with a detour across England before finally making it to school.

The game boasts an involved magic system that puts many famous spells from the Harry Potter series front and center.

Players use spells such as Accio to snatch objects out of their reach, Revelio to reveal hidden objects and highlight points of interest, and Bombarda to blast targets into the air.

The game even allows players to learn an unforgivable curse like Cruciatus, torturing targets and dealing damage over time.

Spells have practical functions that players can use while exploring, so they frequently find new places to use old spells or encounter obstacles that require new spells.

Hogwarts Legacy lets players explore a massive castle and sprawling grounds while testing their spellcasting ability via numerous puzzles.

However, the world is also packed with threats that assail players when they stray from the beaten path.

Stone sentinels haunt murky dungeons, and the waters surrounding the castle are home to predatory, frog-like beasts called dugbogs. Dark wizards and vicious goblins also lurk near the castle grounds, waiting for an opportune moment to strike.

The game also incorporates combat. Players can expect many duels with fellow witch or wizard alumni.

Hogwarts Legacy is a surprisingly competent action game that offers engaging action, robust spell selection, varied game modes, and expansive customization options, particularly if played on a console.

What Do We Know About This Next Harry Potter Game?

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is a new online multiplayer game based on the Wizarding World’s beloved sport, Quidditch.

In the Harry Potter books and movies, Quidditch is a high-flying game where players ride brooms and try to score points by throwing balls through hoops. The game is particularly famous for its small, golden ball called the Golden Snitch, which is incredibly difficult to catch and worth 150 points.

While Quidditch is a fan favorite in the Harry Potter franchise, it was unfortunately absent from the recent open-world action RPG, Hogwarts Legacy. The game gave a story reason for Quidditch’s absence, but that didn’t stop fans from wishing it was included.

Some evidence suggests that Quidditch was initially planned for Hogwarts Legacy but was ultimately scrapped, leaving some fans hoping that it may be added to the game in the future through DLC or a sequel.

Thankfully, franchise fanswon’t have to wait too long to experience the excitement of Quidditch in a new game. Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is an online multiplayer game that has been developing for several years.

The primary developer on the project is Unbroken Studios, which has previously worked with Rocksteady on the development of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

The game is being released under the Portkey Games label, dedicated to creating new gaming experiences set in the Wizarding World. While there’s no official release date yet, those interested in participating in the game’s limited playtest from April 21 to April 22 can sign up on the game’s website.

The website also features some CG footage that hints at the game having a cartoonish art style, but no actual gameplay footage is available at the time of writing.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is expected to be released on both PC and consoles, though the exact consoles haven’t been specified yet.

When signing up for the playtest, players can select PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X consoles, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the game will be available on all those platforms.

One thing that is known about the game is that players can create and customize their characters. While the extent of the game’s character customization remains a mystery, the character creation system in Hogwarts Legacy was impressive, so fans are hopeful that Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will follow suit.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is an exciting new addition to the Wizarding World gaming universe. While fans may still be holding out hope for Quidditch to be included in future installments of Hogwarts Legacy, they can get their fix on the beloved sport through this new online multiplayer game.
