An Entire Generation Is Looking for Shortcuts
Where are we going with all those stupid videos?
A few days ago, a friend of mine visited our house. He is a civil engineer working on a railroad construction project. He is married and has a one and half year old child.
We started the friends-talk, and at one point, my friend told me that he has two YouTube channels — both of them have already got monetization.
My first thought was — well, it’s natural. Nowadays, almost everybody has one YouTube channel and trying to earn some extra money. No wrong with that. So, being curious, I wanted to see those channels. I thought they are about his engineering expertise.
But then, what I saw shocked me to the core!
In one channel, he only uploads the videos of the concerts he attends. And in the other one, he shares bizarre videos. Well, I’m giving an example of how weird they are. In one video, I saw a boy drinking milk directly from a goat’s udder. And it got more than two million views.
I asked him why this type of weird video he uploads in his channel. You know what he said. Yes — it’s all about views. He uploads weird videos because they entice people to click on them, and therefore, he gets the views and earns more money.
He told me that making YouTube videos is one of the best ways to earn money, and not much effort is needed for that. He showed me a channel where some local guys make funny videos and thus, earn thousands of dollars every month from YouTube.
Not just my friend, many people think that making videos is the easiest way to earn money. And they are doing it, leaving everything else behind — their study, career, family, friends, everything. Well, I’m not talking about videos that genuinely provide value. In the weird world of the internet, good videos hardly get the views they deserve.
Anyway, I am talking about stupid videos where people do stupid things only to go viral.
YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram has already taken over human minds. We are now living in the most uncivilized era where people fart on the street and film that to make money.
And my civil engineer friend, without enjoying the concert captures it to upload in YouTube or finds weird things and share online to increase his views and subscribers.
Everyone is looking for shortcuts thinking that the early they can make more money, the happier they will be. So people are making stupid videos, doing live streaming, showing what is under their shirts or pants, doing objectionable pranks, and many more.
I don’t know whether this madness will ever stop or not, as the situation is only getting worse. No doubt, we are the stupidest generation of all!
