An Adventure to The Phoenix Zoo
Flowers, sculptures, and lights, oh my, so much more than just animals…

A Wild Stroll Through “The Park”
The pools are closed for maintenance in my condominium subdivision, so I decided to go out and enjoy this gorgeous, mild fall day in Arizona by visiting our local zoo. I have been to zoos all over the country. In fact, my daughter now works for the number one zoo in Conservation- the Omaha Zoo in Nebraska.

I have visited the Traverse City Zoo, Detroit Zoo, Chicago Zoo, St. Louis Zoo, Atlanta, Knoxville, Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Cincinnati, Denver, San Diego, Palm Springs Zoo, and now I can add The Phoenix Zoo. Each zoo is unique and special in its own way.
It was tough for me to visit a zoo after being in Kenya on a wild Safari. I had very mixed feelings about seeing animals cooped up in small exhibits after seeing them in their natural habitats. Africa is such a beautiful place to experience. But, the reality is very few people would ever get to learn about hippos, elephants, and giraffes if it were not for the zoo education programs. Zoo conservation programs also do a lot to raise money, awareness, and breed animals nearing extinction.
The Phoenix Zoo Photo Adventure

The Phoenix Zoo was quite large but was easy to walk and relatively flat. Although, it did have some sand and gravel trails, so I would recommend closed-toed shoes. The paths are nicely shaded, and there are plenty of misters to provide relief from the heat on overly hot days.

The exhibits were very well done, and the animals seemed to have plenty of space, which always makes my heart happy.

They had monkeys that were unique that I had not seen at other zoos so that was fun.

I was not able to see everything in one visit despite walking ten thousand steps, but have no fear — I bought an annual pass and look forward to returning many more times.
They were already preparing for the festival of lights, and I am looking forward to the winter festivities. It looks like it will be quite a dazzling display.

Final Thoughts
Even if you are not an animal lover, the flowers and sculptures are absolutely amazing. The Phoenix Zoo is a display of art and a beautiful walk in nature, quite honestly. I am willing to bet it will be a little different each visit, and I look forward to finding out. I cannot imagine a better place to take a walk, soak up the magnificent beauty all around, people-watch, and learn a few new things.

The Lionesses are six and are getting used to the smell of the eight-year-old male. They are still keeping them separate, but hope to introduce them soon and plan to mate them according to the volunteer docent I talked with today.

Oh, wait! This would not be complete without a shoutout to all my family at Dancing Elephants Press…I thought of you all today. All of the writers who generously offer inspiration and knowledge, as well as the editorial team Dr. Gabriella Korosi, Dr. Preeti Singh, DR Rawson - The Possibilist, Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles, and Annelise Lords I have a special place in my heart for elephants which led me to this pub. So, I took a few extra photos for all of you today. I tuned into my inner child and found these facts very interesting. I hope you enjoy and maybe learn something new as well ❤️:
