Allowing the Ego to Fall Away

Day 32: Going beyond your personality to your true self

Photo by Gena Okami on Unsplash

Refreshing mist and tiny drops of rain greeted me this morning on my path. Nature’s lesson to me today was very quiet. It was silently telling me to let everything go, let my fears and concerns wash away with the incoming rain. The garden smelled fresh with the cleansing of the rain today. Each step brought more clarity to my spirit today. As I truly listen in to what life is teaching me in every moment on my journey, I am in awe of the lessons. As I walk along exploring, I see something new each time I read The Infinite Self by Stuart Wilde.

As I amble along on this spiritual quest, I am learning to let go of something with each step. When we are exploring our spirit, we start to let concepts, beliefs, and personality traits fall away. We gradually understand our true selves. Parts of the ego fall away to reveal our authentic selves. Each day, as the sculptor of our lives, we chip away at the ego and start to see the beauty of the spirit shine through.

You’re going to take the light of perception and shine it behind your day-to-day reality. As the light shines, you’re going to see the world in its true evolutionary state. You will see how it actually is, not how it appears to the intellect. The process will completely transform your attitude, your emotion, your intellect, your psychology, your spirituality. -Stuart Wilde

I am beginning to let go of myself. I realize that I have lived in a personality shaped by how I grew up, things I thought I was obligated to believe. All of that is beginning to fall away. My true self dares to know when things feel right to my authentic self, and when I am acting out of an old, fearful personality. I believe this process is akin to reprogramming your inner system. You are shedding your old identity to soar and become who you are truly meant to be.

We can all go beyond our egos. When we begin to uncover our true selves, we are no longer controlled by the ego. Each of those old layers can be shed, revealing our true light underneath. Every day is a new opportunity to strip away a part of our ego and uncover our spirit.

Quest comes at the sacred moment where you agree to quit. It’s a beginning and an ending at the same time. It’s that sacred moment when you agree to abandon the fight, the struggle, the emotion, the world of the ego-personality, and you step away. And as you do so, there is an absolute power that joins you from within, that assists you….it shines a light in front of you.- Stuart Wilde

I am beginning to learn that I can let go of concepts of myself and instead concentrate on becoming a light spirit. I can let go of all of the labels that I attached to my ego and I am still me underneath. I can let go of: professional organizer, online teacher, writer, mom, wife, daughter, sister, U.S. citizen, and more. As I begin to let go of all of these, I can become lighter. I can listen with compassion. I can assist without advice. I can share without seeking approval.

This process of letting go is not without confusion, pain, and hard decisions. Allowing the ego to drop away is a daily choice. It requires discipline, focus, and most of all a great deal of love for yourself. Love yourself even if you know you are seeking acceptance. Give yourself grace and compassion for clinging to concepts of yourself. Life will give you tests along the way. You are not failing if you take a step back. You are just becoming a new spirit and that takes time.

A perfect example of going through painful and difficult experiences brings me to something that happened yesterday. There is an event coming up. For days now, I have been nervous. I am still not sure how to handle this event; given that social activities must be done with precautions during the times we are living in. I have an invitation that I have to give a clear answer to soon. My inner being is saying no. My feelings tell me that I am not comfortable with this. My ego says yes because I must be accepted. For now, I have decided to give myself some time. I do know that the answer is no, but I will give myself some time to respond. It is acceptable to give yourself space and time when making a choice. Most often we already know the answer within our inner knowing. However, we have to give ourselves time and grace to come to that conclusion.

My prayer and intention for you today is that you become aware of when you are clinging to old concepts of yourself. Are those serving you as you seek to become your true self? Are they getting in the way of experiencing true joy? What labels can you let go of? Trust in your true self today. Life is cheering you on, every step of the way. We are all waiting for you to shine a light on our path today.

How are you letting go of old labels today?
