Summary

Trista Signe Ainsworth reflects on the natural simplicity and flow of life, emphasizing the importance of starting the day with creativity and mindfulness, inspired by the sight of spiders and their webs, and grounded in Taoist principles.

Abstract

In "Aligning to the Flow of Life," Trista Signe Ainsworth shares her personal journey of embracing the natural rhythm of life through daily observations in her garden. On Day 24 of her exploration, she encounters spiders and their webs, which symbolize creativity and the intricate nature of ideas, prompting her to prioritize creative work over immediate reactions to messages. Drawing from Taoist teachings, particularly the concept of wu-wei, she advocates for a state of 'action through nonaction,' where one aligns with the natural flow of life by disengaging the mind and allowing things to unfold effortlessly. Ainsworth acknowledges her recent attachment to outcomes and the subsequent anxiety, which contrasts with her previous state of detachment and calmness. She emphasizes the importance of starting the day with silence and creation to maintain a smooth flow of energy. By observing nature, such as the unfolding petals of roses, she learns to embrace a simple, unhurried existence, akin to the rose's natural unfoldment. The article concludes with a prayer for balance and an invitation to her readers to reflect on their own state of equilibrium.

Aligning to the Flow of Life

Day 24: Allowing things to be in their natural simplicity

Noticing five different spiders and their intricate webs today on my daily garden walk brought me to a place of curiosity. I found myself mesmerized. I wondered why all of a sudden, I saw so many spiders. I love how curious we can get about life if we truly take time to notice things. There is pure beauty in exploring the book The Infinite Self by Stuart Wilde for 100 days.

I looked up spiders and their meaning today. I found that spiders can signal creativity and intricate ideas. It was a signal to me that I am on the right path. I needed to get back to creation first, then respond. I had been starting my days responding to or looking at messages, rather than starting with creation. The spiders were there to tell me to start weaving my creative web every day first.

There is a concept in Taoist writings called wu-wei. It is the idea that there is a natural flow in nature and in life, and that by aligning to this flow and disengaging the mind, one allows things to rest inside a natural simplicity in order to effortlessly unfold in the space of time. -Stuart Wilde

Slowly I am learning on this path to notice the natural flow of things. I must pay attention to how my energy feels. If I start my day with silence and then go into creation, my day will run smoothly. If I start with messages, reactions, and responses, the day will be more fractured. I am feeling like I am slowly getting back into the natural order of life. By getting curious about every detail around me on my morning walk, I can discern what to focus on for the day. How magical!

Recently I have noticed that I have been more attached to outcomes. I have found myself feeling worried and anxious about some things that have happened this week. For a while, I was able to remain detached and to go with the flow. I was going along in a calmer state. Since seeing and understanding the message of the spiders this morning, I am starting to feel more detached, more able to focus on the now.

What we can see through this idea of “action through nonaction” is that the initiate is detached — that in itself allows him or her to have power. Nonaction is being outside the emotional molecule of your people — the collective emotion — outside the desires and frustrations of the ego. It’s the lightness of touch that comes from confidence, grace and a settled heart. -Stuart Wilde

I am starting to feel the flow of the days. I am beginning to put creativity and sharing at the beginning of my list. I am connecting more with my co-worker, nature. As I flow more freely through my days, my path is clear. At the start of this week, I was stumbling a little bit. As I regain balance, my energy starts to pick up. I am more able to focus on the present moment. I am more able to be in the now. I am creating more inner strength and more inner power.

This morning I gathered three beautiful roses from the garden. I love how gently their petals unfold every day. They do not worry about how slowly they open up. The rose simply is. It is a simple unfoldment. I want to become like the rose today, opening up one petal at a time, in my own time. I am so grateful to nature for teaching me all that I need to know today.

Wu-wei is understanding that you don’t have to push. When people rush forward, you step back; when they run, you walk. When they cry out and call for attention, you remain still. If you are not desperate in your needs and wants, no one can move you. You have all the time in the world. Say that to yourself several times a day like a mantra: I am balanced. I have all the time in the world. -Stuart Wilde

My prayer and intention for you today is that you see how you are balanced. Notice how you feel. Notice how your energy feels. Is it time to slow down? Notice if you feel in the flow, or if you feel too rushed. Notice the balance of your day. You have plenty of time to do today what is most important.

How are you balanced today?
