AI: With Change Comes Chance
The wave of replacements is already building. Do you see it?

It’s now easy to see how Artificial Intelligence will erase some white-collar jobs from the economy. The ChatGPT experience has opened many more people’s eyes to what is possible. The OpenAI website has had over 100 million users in just the first few months of ChatGPT’s public availability.
Clearly, AI can already do the following:
- Produce very well-written initial drafts of stories and advertisement copy that formerly required the hiring of a writer
- Produce very interesting graphics that formerly required the hiring of an artist ( no people were hired for the graphics of this article )
Today’s AI is already on the cusp of the following too:
- Produce useful initial drafts of computer programs, something a computer programmer would have been hired to produce
- Produce useful initial drafts of medical diagnosis, something a medical professional would have been hired to produce
The above lists can be made bigger with a little effort, but this is enough to make a point. Where will the replacement of people with machines stop?
Replacements happening is easy to see.
What’s not as easy to see is how the advent of machines replacing people in some knowledge-work jobs can be an opportunity for many people instead of a curse to millions.
Opportunity for a Few
The wealthy and connected will continue to rise with the tide of profit from lower labor costs.
There are people, a few, that are insulated from the damages of lost career and employment paths. They will benefit greatly in the short term as reliable and very inexpensive machine solutions replace sometimes cantankerous unpredictable real people that would have to be paid to do the jobs.
Opportunity for Many
Here is the challenging question: Is there an opportunity for the many in this reality that is shrinking the options for entry into the working world? Is there a practical path where that would happen?
Does the creation of a better future depend on the largess of influential and established powerful people? Or is there a natural non-disruptive way forward for these AI automations to create a better living for everyone and not just the few?
These automations are creating change. The change is coming faster than most people realize.
The economy will be impacted like a tidal wave crashing on a town where most people sleep unaware.

Who will be asleep?
Mindset
Our future depends on our mindset.
Which mindsets will win and drive us forward?
Will it be the mindset of short-term gains without regard to future outcomes or will it be mindsets that consider broad implications and act to produce the best long-term outcomes?
