AI Dilemma: Unraveling the Impact of Hallucinations, Deepfakes, and AI Laws — Who’s Truly Responsible
Beyond Algorithms: Unmasking the Human Factor in the AI Blame Game

I am here in Hamburg, watching the news in a language I don’t understand: but I do understand they are intervening an “expert” showing photo shoots for Press News about the War in Gaza claiming that are deep fake.

On all the media platform many questions arise about who we can trust: and honestly this is not a new topic! The Information system has always been considered as an Alternative Power entity, not always following clear ethic rules. It is not a problem related to Social Media, it is a clear problem related to Social Mindset and Culture.
In the past years our fears and suspects on the impartiality of Global Information Network was growing: now everyone is trying to shift the blame to the Social Networks, but is that really a thing?
Who is really shaping the Narrative? Facebook? Twitter/X? Or the News networks in our Countries with all the underlined Political implications?
News or not News?
I have to say that, for how deep is your education and critical thinking , it is not an easy feat to set out head straight and evaluate the situation.

And the list goes on: it looks like now, more than ever before, considering and confirm authenticity of the sources is a must.

Is AI to be blamed for all this mess?
When it comes to AI language models, it is essential to recognize that they are neither inherently good nor bad. The true issue lies in the improper education and understanding of the individuals who utilize these models for nefarious purposes or misguided objectives.
- What kind of culture do we have to create and promote?
- What regulations must be put in place at all levels (philosophical, ethical, technical, educational and political)?
- Do we really need to have laws?

I don’t believe that Medium audience can be compared to the average population of our planet. I am not talking about values or worth, I am considering the general understanding of the Artificial Intelligence landscape. Who is interested in learning how a Language Model works, how it is trained, how to avoid hallucinations, how to fine-tune it… well this individual is well aware of the limitations of the actual AI.
The problem certainly is that this is not valid for the majority of the population on this planet, including our politicians and journalists. The Fear Policies coming out from the US and UK Executive Order are a clear example of this trend.
Don’t misunderstand me: I believe a regulation is required, but NOT on the research level! Is the application level the issue!
- Why people is using generative AI to fake content?
- Why content creator and using AI as their second brain (sometimes I wander if AI has taken the first brain spot….)
- Why there is a surge in looking for jobs that must not be 9 to 5? Where is supposed to be the freedom in a continuous quest of Clickbaits and Scoops?

Let me give you a quick example. One month ago I was lucky enough to attend one of the most renewed Expositions in my Industry Sector. Held in Abu Dhabi, ADIPEC is the largest and most inclusive gathering for the global energy industry. Hosted by ADNOC, the event facilitates high-level strategic dialogue and international collaboration to deliver tangible actions towards a responsible and realistic energy transition.
This event brought together over 160,000 global policy makers, CEOs, innovators, thought leaders and industry experts developing ideas and solutions towards bold action and transformative change in response to the realities of energy transition. The entire world was represented there with a common goal: promote and explore feasible Decarbonising strategies.
A part for the great opportunity to meet real experts and new business partners, the general level of understanding of the technologies involved in the decarbonization and the so called strategic AI advancement was almost Zero.
What is AI, how a predictive algorithm works, what do we need to implement new machine learning models and so on: I am confident to say that not even 5% of the companies there knows what all of this is about.
The general strategy is to talk big and offload the technicalities to an external 3rd party company. How can Companies LEAD innovation without even understanding the capabilities and opportunities of the state of the art technology?

At the same time the debate surrounding artificial intelligence, with its challenges of linguistic alignment and potential risks of hallucinations, has finally transcended the realms of academia and entered the political arena. As this critical discussion unfolds, a pressing question emerges: Who possesses the requisite expertise to navigate these complex waters without introducing additional filters, biases, and fear driven by ignorance?
The stakes are high, as the decisions made by policymakers will have far-reaching implications for society. It becomes imperative to assemble a knowledgeable and diverse group of individuals who can engage in this discourse with a deep understanding of the intricacies involved, without being influenced by pre-existing beliefs or assumptions, and committed to promoting informed decision-making in the face of AI’s evolving landscape.

As far as Fear has always, however, a reason to be (history should have given as plenty of lessons…) where to focus our attention is still unclear.
In generative AI there is a ground postulate: Attention is all you need!
As society grapples with the consequences of AI’s rapid advancement, we find ourselves embroiled in a heated debate regarding culpability. Are we right to lay the blame solely at the feet of AI algorithms, or should we direct our focus towards those who wield this powerful tool?
The impact of AI-generated hallucinations and deepfakes goes far beyond lines of code. It is the people behind these creations who hold the potential to exploit, manipulate, and disrupt our lives. It’s time to shift our gaze from the technology itself to the individuals who misuse it.
