Advent Part One: ‘The Prince of Peace’ is Coming
But you wouldn’t know if you see what shops are offering

In late November-time I wrote a short article: O Come Let Us Adore HAM! in which I mentioned that I’d written 4 other Advent articles for December with the following titles (underlined as links once published):
Advent Part 1: ‘The Prince of Peace is coming’ (today’s article)
Advent Part 2: ‘What do you want for Christmas?’
Advent Part 3: ‘Is He Here Yet?’
Advent Part 4: ‘The 25th Day: The Nativity’
Today’s article is Advent Part 1: ‘The Prince of Peace is coming’:
I looked around the shops as December was approaching; they were being decked out ready for Christmas. I wanted to see if I could find examples of Traditional Advent Calendars [Christian count-down calendars with ‘windows’ to be opened each day of December revealing a Christian image or quote … culminating on Christmas day (the 25th)] when the final window would reveal The Birth of Jesus, ‘The Prince of Peace’.
What did I find? >>> what was the reality?:
I frequented mainly supermarkets and big-name stores but didn’t find any traditional Christian Advent Calendars. I’m not suggesting that none were available, but from my own local search, I only found this sort of thing:

The items above were clearly aimed at children, but others were for adults … such things as a set of advent perfumes, and a set of advent soaps, and many other Christmas-goody-sets for young and old:

The ‘Frozen Advent Calendar’ above is a giant of a book (some 60 cm tall!) and when I opened it I found 24 ‘windows’ … each with a storybook tucked behind it.
It was quite appealing … not a Traditional Christian Advent Calendar … though it did come close. Nice presentation Disney! ⬇⬇⬇

Looks good doesn’t it? But these windows don’t lead to the birth of Jesus on the 25th. The 24 storybooks feature characters from the Disney movie ‘Frozen’.
Once again, it would seem that commercialism has overtaken traditionalism
Takeaway:
Enjoy the commercial goodies along with the kids, but please, whatever your belief system (or even if you have none), think about this:
If peace is something to aim for, lets not reject The Prince of Peace.
Whoever & whatever you are, may you be blessed this Christmas.
Have a delightful Advent, and do think about The Prince of Peace. Why not let the Prince of Peace come into your life?
Whoever & whatever you are … may you be blessed … always … Fred:
