About Me — Stuart Englander
Life is filled with Crossroads. Choosing those which fire the imagination
As we move through life we are met with choices. If you move slowly, the choices are bountiful, and sometimes too many.
So you speed up a bit, travelling past successive crossroads at a pace where a decision isn’t an option. Then, you find you’re moving faster and faster, and the intersections slip by in a blur, leaving you to fly on without the knowledge that a choice even exists.
What on earth does this have to do with my biography, you ask?
I have seen my life at various speeds, and I have to say I’m enjoying this one the best. Being at home most of the day, either working at my computer on a story, learning to bake, or taking long walks with my dog are among the most satisfying times I’ve ever experienced.
I’m equal parts late bloomer and late Boomer. My friends call me Stu and I hope to be yours. Some thrill-seekers call me Stuey at their peril, but what’s in a name?
I grew up and still live in the Greater Toronto Area as we call it. Life as a Canadian is much like being an American, except for the noise. Sorry, eh.
With an education in film, (some would say dubious at best), I am deeply drawn to the concepts of storytelling.
Fiction writing is my first love, though I seem to have developed a following for some of my personal reflections and observations. Time in isolation has helped me to reacquaint myself with…myself.

My dog Guinness is often my muse. I’m not sure she cares to be. Sometimes she will vocalize that sentiment.
My wife is almost convinced I’ve lost the plot. She may be right. I can tell you though honestly, I’ve never had a better time than this. I move to meet each crossroad head-on, not the other way around now.
The Medium platform has afforded me much more than a place to park my words. I have had the good fortune to meet some remarkable people, and though we have never met in person, I can honestly call them friends.
One such person is a very gifted writer named Liam Ireland. We share an unusual amount of similar experiences and a kinship for good story writing. The added benefit is a friendship that challenges each of us as writers.
I believe it also helps to look at life through a different lens from time to time, which is why I am happy to have connected with Myriam Ben Salem, a young person who has found the grace to reimagine the world around her in a more positive light.
One day, I hope to travel again and meet these wonderful people in person. For now, this is how I wish to journey through the rest of my life, with my best friend, my wife Sandy by my side. I’m most grateful for her.
So, the journey continues here, at About Me Stories, and I’m very glad that Quy Ma reached out. Hopefully, there will be some new friendships to be found here. I look forward to discovering you all.
For now, here some samples of what I think is some of my better efforts. I hope you enjoy them.
