My Bio

As I write this, I’m sitting at my make-shift desk sipping coffee and typing on a tiny laptop perched atop an empty cardboard box. It’s a completely ugly setup, but I love it.

It’s my favorite place in my house. It’s where all my childhood dreams of being a full-time writer finally came true.

I’m Christopher Kokoski, pronounced Co-Co-Ski. Just imagine drinking hot cocoa while skiing down a snowy slope.

But never do that in real life. It’s a terrible idea.

My last name is Polish, but I was born in Kansas, USA. I spent the first three months of my life there and have never been back since. I don’t know the reason for my sudden departure from the flattest state, but based on my lifetime relationship track record, I’m pretty sure it was because of a bad breakup.

Baby breakups are the worst.

Since my dad was in the army — think Rambo — I divided my childhood between Kentucky, USA, and Darmstadt, Germany.

This is me back then:

I lived in Germany between the ages of 7–10, and I made some of the best memories of my life there. One of my favorites was exploring all of the castles. I truly believe this early experience with another country triggered my life-long love of travel.

So far, I’ve been to Germany twice (I visited in college when my dad was stationed there again). I’ve also traveled to Mexico and Brazil. I renewed my passport in 2019 and plan to travel far and wide starting this year.

2020 reading that last statement like 👀.

But back to my story.

After leaving Germany, we moved to Kentucky. I took up writing as a form of self-therapy (although I didn’t know it at the time). Writing, my middle-school English teacher, and God almost certainly saved my life.

I wouldn’t be here to write this story otherwise.

In high school, I ran track and played the trumpet in our band. If you wondered if I was a huge nerd even back then, well I guess that answers your question.

This picture really says it all:

Zach Morris, anyone?

Funny how I thought high school mattered back then. Until, all of a sudden, it didn’t. Once I graduated, I attended Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.

lf you’re thinking “Murray, Kentucky” sounds like the most red-neck, back-country place ever, you are correct.

I’ve never liked the word “college”. It has a harsh “k” sound like I’m about to cough something up. For me, it goes along with other unappealing “K” words: kill, ketchup, Kardashian.

I much prefer the word “university”.

In university, I studied Communication, Nonprofit Leadership, and girls. I joined a Fraternity — all I can say is “wow” and thank God that was the era before social media captured everything for eternity. 😳

There is still hope for my future in politics (Joking, I’ll take my Writer’s Life for 700, Alex).

After graduating, I wrote a few novels and books. I fathered two beautiful kids that I love with all of my heart.

They look a little bit like me:

I spent 13 years teaching evidence-based personal development and relationship skills all over the USA. I co-authored a few peer-reviewed journal articles about connection, relationships, and behavioral change.

In 2020, I quit my job to become a full-time freelance writer. One of my biggest contracts is writing for a major health company. I like to say, “I’m not a doctor but I play one on the internet.”

Also in 2020, I launched a website and a related YouTube channel about writing. Then I found Medium in October 2020.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Random Fun Facts

I thought it might be fun to share a few random facts that don’t really fit anywhere else:

  • I taught myself how to juggle in high school after my brother had to learn as part of a school assignment.
  • I can’t blow a bubble with chewing gum to save my life.
  • I am technically a certified hypnotist. I took an online certification as part of the research for my first novel.
  • I actually have an IMDb page. I was in talks with a producer for a while about making my novels into movies.
  • I was kicked out of Brazil during college.
  • Michael Jackson almost ruined my childhood.
