About Me — Alina Feito Caldas
A Psychologist Who’s Just the Right Amount of Nuts

Hi, I’m Alina and I’m a psychologist with heart and soul.
Let me start with 4 contradictions about myself:
- I adore my job, but would never work 40 hours or more (I just love being lazy even more).
- I love plants, but so far have killed almost all that I own (which does not stop me from grabbing new victims).
- I am a lazy adventurer. I leave the country every chance I get. I love to wander. But once I’m home, I find myself in the horizontal.
- I am terrified of commitment, yet I have a long-term boyfriend and a cat (which leads to panic attacks of both minor and major proportions on a regular basis).
Also, my life fell apart, when I was 12 years old. At least that’s how it felt at the time.
Why I Write
I’m not here for the side hustlin’. I work in a medical practice for children and adolescents that pays me well enough. I write on Medium to create some space for a topic that is insanely close to my heart.
I’m the child of an alcoholic mother. And I need to talk about it. Urgently.
Why? Because alcoholism is a family disease, but the longer I deal with the subject of addiction, the more I notice that no one talks about us children. I want to show others that they are not alone.
Besides, writing here helps me to find more to myself again. Because if I’m honest, I’ve lost quite a few feathers. However, I am an optimist (well, at least sometimes). So here are 2 positive things that have resulted from my mom’s addiction:
- I’ve heard that whole traumatic childhood thingy makes you interesting, so I’ve got that one going for me! And more importantly:
- Through both my personal experiences and professional expertise, I can encourage people to feel, process, and overcome their own pain (at least I hope so).
That “About the Author”-Thing
I’m not a professional writer, but I wrote occasionally for a small online newspaper during my studies, which helped me pay my rent at the time.
I’m in my late twenties and my partner and I are living in a small flat in a big city in the German Southwest. Well, we live more like sublets with our cat, who lets us stay there in exchange for food. We call her Madam affectionately because if I’m honest, she sets the tone in the house.
I guess that’s all there is to know about me. So if you liked what you read, feel free to hit the follow button under Alina Feito Caldas!
