Katō, in 2008, perpetrated the Akihabara massacre in which seven people were killed and a further ten individuals were injured.</p><p id="b1a6">The perpetrator, then 25-years-old, drove a rented truck into a crowd. Katō initially killed three people and injuring two other persons. He then went on a stabbing spree. Katō, killing four people and injuring a further eight individuals, stabbed at least twelve persons with a dagger.</p><p id="2564">Katō, sentenced to death by the Tokyo District Court in 2011, saw the sentence was upheld on appeal in 2015. The Supreme Court of Japan, on Monday, 2 Feb. 2015, upheld the death penalty. Russian forces shelled Bakhmut: at least three persons dead and a further three individuals were wounded

Russian forces shell Bakhmut with the BM-27 Uragan MLRS, killing three civilians and wounding three others. Six apartment blocks and six detached houses are also destroyed or damaged. Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, was home to at least 72,310 Ukrainians. The European Bakhmut Winery, since 1951, has been located there.

Meanwhile, from across the border in Belarus, Russian forces launch twenty-five ballistic missiles into northern Ukraine.

Not all news is bad for the Ukrainians. Oleksiy Arestovych, a Ukrainian presidential advisor, reports that an operation to recapture the Kherson Oblast has started.
