Spain, on Thursday, 19 May 2022, confirmed seven new monkeypox cases. Many other people, in what is a highly unusual outbreak spanning much of Europe, are being tested.
“Crap — Monkeypox is likely aerosol airborne. Study indicates monkeypox is aerosol stable for up to 90 HOURS and remain infective during that time,” Dr. Eric Feigl-Dingtweeted.
The previous day, in Portugal, the first five cases were reported. In the United States, referencing a man from Massachusetts who recently traveled to Canada, confirmation of the first case has been established.
“JUST IN: A Massachusetts resident has tested positive for monkeypox, the state health department confirms,” tweeted ABC News.
The United Kingdom, on Tuesday, 17 May 2022, reported another four cases. The total number of British cases, including Tuesday’s four new cases, is seven. Curiously, with no links to previous cases, the new cases appear to have been the result of community transmission.
Monkeypox, an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV), occur in certain animals. Any assumption humans are somehow separate from contracting the virus is completely erroneous. Humans, noting numerous cases reported in various countries, are highly susceptible to the Monkeypox virus.
