David Tennant, Catherine Tate, and Bernard Cribbins return to “Doctor Who”
Tennant, Tate, and Cribbins, in London, seen filming scenes for a new “Doctor Who” episode

David Tennant, sporting a new coat, has been seen filming scenes for a new Doctor Who episode. Tennant, playing the Tenth Doctor, was previously seen in the Fiftieth Anniversary Special Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor. It’s been a long time since we saw either Cribbins or Tate on Doctor Who. Their appearances in the coming anniversary special are something fans have wanted for a long time.
Ten years have passed since the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors teamed up with the War Doctor. The Sixtieth Anniversary is on the horizon. Remarkable things are expected for the coming anniversary. Bringing previous Doctor incarnations back for a brief cameo appearance isn’t enough. There must be a plausible justification for their presence. Anniversary Specials work best when there is a plausible multi-doctor story.
The Tenth Doctor is hugely popular with Whovians of all ages. The same is true for The Eleventh Doctor. Tennant and Matt Smith, respectively playing The Tenth and Eleventh Doctor, brought to the series a characterisation which transcends mere words. The Doctor grew in dimensions never previously thought possible.
The Tenth, Eleventh, and Thirteenth Doctors appearing together on screen, if the talent is given a proper multi-doctor story, could work. Would we believe our eyes? Plausibility, in every sense of the word, is a key element to Doctor Who. Is the person flying the TARDIS capable for carrying the story forwards?
Doctor Who has added a degree of diversity to the lead casting. Some people, arguing the series became too political, quit watching Doctor Who when Whittaker was cast as The Thirteenth Doctor. They simply couldn’t accept a woman could be The Doctor. Tennant returning to the series has sparked a renewed interest in Doctor Who from fans that abandoned it.
“I quit watching Doctor Who after they put that woman doctor n & became super politically correct,” tweeted J Noneya. “But if they’re putting David Tennant back as the doctor then I’d definitely watch again he was my favorite doctor him and the rose storyline was my favorite out of the whole series.”
