PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE

A Week About Skies and the Weather

Week 59 of the photographic documentary of my daily life

I almost feel like my weeks are repeating each other. I guess it’s because they are. I do the same things each week. I jump out of planes, fly above the clouds, and look up at the sky. And then I start from the beginning again.

But somehow I do not get bored. I wonder why. Maybe because I’m filled with adrenaline for 90 percent of the time. And those other 10 percent I’m just in awe looking at the skies. Clouds, morning haze, and other weather features. They are all fascinating to me.

Meet Sharky. This is another one from the skydiving family. A beautifully painted plane. Today, that is where I leaped from after opening the door at 13,000 ft.

My favorite time of the day for taking photographs and taking in the beauty of nature on days like these. When the morning dew is covering the grass and painting it white. When the fog is hanging low above the village.

This was as much of the sun as we got to see today. Surely not a day to jump out of planes. Today involved lots of waiting. Waiting for the weather to get better. And eventually just waiting for the day to pass. This is part of my job. Waiting. Waiting some more. And then having lost a day because of waiting.

Sunday was better. I took this shot of the soft grass before driving home again. I like grass. Because it lets us land softly again. And because the grass is just a great photography object.

Today I was going to work with my husband when the road to the airfield was blocked because of construction work. Without looking up an alternative route we simply drove a circle around the construction site leading us across farm roads and these lovely cornfields.

Couldn’t see where we were going but our sense of orientation brought us back to where we needed to go.

Some days we need more than just one photo to share the beauty of a moment. The beauty of our daily lives can’t always be shown in one single shot. That’s why you got two pictures today displaying the flowers my mom gifted me. One from afar and one as a close-up shot.

Closing this week’s photography challenge with some shots I took while flying in the sky. For those new to my writings, I am a photographer in the air capturing skydivers (and landscapes) with cameras mounted to my helmet.
