A poem about how two cops walk away free from murder charges.

One day a black man, Rayshard Brooks, had too much to drink got in his car and drove to Wendy’s restaurant perhaps to buy some food, but fell asleep at the wheel a Wendy’s worker frighten called the police two Atlanta cops, miller and Rolfe, arrived on the scene got Brooks out of the drive-thru, talked to him for 40 minutes the location where he pulled over was near relatives’ home all was calm until the cops decided to arrest him being Black, alone, facing two cops, and going to jail impaired his judgment, already impaired by alcohol made a deadly decision to run away after grabbing a taser the police were blinded by what a Black man did and the nerve when Brooks turned and shot at them with the taser at that moment Brooks back turned, they shot him twice in the back why must the police always shoot to kill when it is a Black person were the police’s lives threatened with that taser, a deterrent forty minutes of chatting, enough time to drop him home to sleep it off his only crime was drinking too much and being accosted by two cops no one wants to go to jail, especially if no real crime was committed why were the cops not the bigger person who is trained to de-escalate forty minutes of talking with an intoxicated man, what is the point make him sober again or provoke him to be arrested what runs through minds under pressure, wrong decisions a little understanding makes the difference in life or death Brooks died from his wounds, but the two cops go free because they made the right decision under pressure Pressure? Pressure is a Black man facing two cops, alone the cops had the upper hand, why take a man’s life when train to do otherwise, blood on their hands another Black man buried who feared the worst his life snuffed out with a cop’s bullet with his name on it death caught him in the back, because he drank too much.
