A DIY Diaries September Halloween Challenge

This article and craft idea is in response to Amanda Laughtland’s September Halloween challenge.

Decorating on a Budget

Unfortunately we have a lot of prescription bottles in our home. Both my parents are aging and with that comes health concerns.

I’ve saved several of the bigger bottles over time because they are great storage containers for my smaller craft supplies like eyelets or buttons.

This challenge took me a minute to figure out. I don’t know what happened to my creative juices. Maybe they’re cooling with the weather.

I was working on a junk journal with strips of fabric when the idea knocked a few brain cells together and created a spark.

Pill bottle jack-o-lanterns became a thing and I’m thrilled with how they turned out. I wish I had some googly eyes instead of my handmade ones. I think that would have looked better.

Boo — Mini Jack o Lanterns in the Dark

They look like little mummies to me when I put all the lights off. Too cute.

Super Kid Friendly and Quick

I love this craft because it’s inexpensive, quick and kiddo friendly.

You could make a bigger version with glass containers. I used battery operated dollar store tea lights because they’re safer.

I can see this as a lantern craft for other holidays too. Just change the color of the fabric.

Green or red for Christmas.

Blue and silver for Hanukah.

Black, red and green for Kwanzaa.

Red, white and blue for 4th of July.

What about a themed party? Maybe the lanterns can have hats or ears.

Okay, the creative juices are flowing again. :0)
