A Magic Carpet Is All We Need
Delving briefly into the memory of a family upholsterer
“Write about an arras, a drapery, a hanging. A real one.
Or a magic carpet” - says Ann James.
I’ve got them all covered.
Not me, precisely, but my deceased uncle, a real upholsterer.
I tried to tell Carlo Zeno how uncomfortable I am, not having the freedom of using the word tapestry while weaving the texture of my articles. I have inherited the right to do it! At four years old I was an apprentice hammering nails into wood. My uncle planted them in the draperies of the chairs. But, alas! It’s a difficult battle nowadays, when everyone else is talking nonsense they barely know.
I’ve therefore come to a conclusion (it must be brief this time, you know).
I’ve written a prayer to my uncle, the upholsterer, who was an estimated professional in this field. Maybe he can help.
“Dear uncle, thou art in Heaven. Now that you hang out with Vips people, please ask them a favor. We are in extreme need of a magic carpet, one you can easily weave. Send it to Earth, the ether, the internet, and take away all the fake upholsterer. In exchange we will keep on being good, avoiding rough textile, and the Matrix. Thank you.”
Sounds fine or not?
