Josephine Baker, an astounding actress, who performed on stages nationally and internationally. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri as Freda Josephine McDonald on June 3, 1906, and transitioned on April 1975. She was American-born and became a French entertainer, French Resistance Agent, and civil rights activist. Not being rightfully recognized as a consummate artist, she migrated to Europe where she was revered and accepted readily by France, renounced her U.S. citizenship.

Ms. Baker was the first Black woman to star in a major motion picture in 1927, “Siren of the Tropics”, became renowned as a dancer and became a celebrated performer with other great headlines of the Folies Bergere n Paris. Also, her performance in the revue Un vent de folie in 1927 caused a sensation in the city as she wore only a short skirt of artificial bananas and a beaded necklace, which became an iconic image and a symbol both of the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties. Being accepted on such a level, she renounced her U.S. citizenship and became a French national after her marriage to French industrialist Jean Lion in 1937 and raised her children in France.
