PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
A Double Rainbow in Fairytale Land
Week 41 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
I can’t remember ever having such changeable weather for such a long period of time. Not in Germany. Not in May. Not in this village. Every single day in this week wind, sun, and rain alternated between each other.
We were having a barbecue just now. Outside of course. The sun was shining. Now I’m sitting on the couch staring at the window. It’s pouring down rain. The wind is blowing over every single item standing outside.

Isn’t it beautiful in spring? When all the trees start turning green and the meadows shine in a juicy green color. Some trees are adding some color diversity with their blossoms.
This is a picture out of my parents' garden plot. You can see a pear tree, a cherry tree, some bushes which will carry berries in a few months, and a piece of grass where wildflowers are allowed to grow.

Back in our quaint little town, I enjoy the view across the forest. The different shades of green are popping out at the moment. The broad-leaved trees with their young leaves are standing in contrast to the evergreen fir and pine trees.
The valley is shining in endless hues of green.

The weather is at the moment what we call “wechselhaft” in German. It’s unbelievably inconsistent. The sun is shining and in the next moment, I have to switch the light on in the flat while the sky turned black. Rain and wind appear in constant alternation to each other. Or they both take over the valley at the same time.
Just around sunset, I captured this constellation of clouds in the sky. The birds came out again and started to sing. It’s peaceful. Tranquil. Just before the storm will hit again.

Today we were back at the dropzone working a bit and preparing for a (hopefully soon) start. This is the landing area where we usually come down with the parachutes. It looks all so calm and peaceful right now. No parachutes. No planes. No people.

Well. What to say about today? The sun was shining. It was raining. The wind was howling around the house all day long. It stopped to rain. And started again. When I looked at the window I could see the late afternoon sun enlightening the valley.
Which meant there had to be a rainbow. I was sure about it. But I didn’t expect something like that. The rainbow was bright. Big. Close. And stretched from one side of the valley to the other side. Unbelievable.
And the rainbow wasn’t alone. His partner came with him. The double rainbow didn’t last for long. But long enough for me to capture.

Sherry Kappel was commenting on last week’s photo essay about how she loved the photographs of the sheep. She mentioned something about working with goats, so I decided to go visit the small herd of goats this week to take a picture or two for her.
Yesterday I walked past the herd already but didn’t take my camera with me because it wasn’t clear if it was going to rain or not. Today I was walking towards the fence when all the goats came running down the field towards me. That was making it easier. Now I did not even need my zoom lens to capture the joyous animals.

More bushes and trees are blossoming in the valley. The lilac is the one taking over from spring’s cherry blossoms. While those blossoms are withering slowly but surely the lilac is shining now in white, pink, and purple in every second garden of the village.
This has been my week in photographs. 7 days. 7 photographs. Anyone can join. Once of. Or weekly. It doesn’t matter. We welcome anyone! Dennett was the one starting this photography challenge sometime last year and many have participated ever since.
