My cat changed my life!

I am not exaggerating a bit. It really did change my life. Now every morning, I wake up listening to its meow, meow. And I tell you — it’s not good at all. I mean, I want to sleep a few hours more — but my cat doesn’t like that. So, I wake up and either prepare food for it or play to pacify its restlessness. My cat has become my alarm clock — but with no snooze button.

If you don’t know, my cat’s name is Mini, and it’s nearly one year old. I adopted it to figure out why people have pets like dogs and cats and how it helps them deal with loneliness. I wanted to see whether having a pet (cat or dog, or else) makes us happier or not.

And after nearly one year with my lovely little feline partner, I can safely say that having a pet (especially a cat or dog) can be one of the best decisions of your life. It can drive away all the negativity and fill your life with daily joy and happiness.

Don’t you believe me? Okay. Let’s talk about it more.

A Pet Helps You Rediscover Your Lost Innocence

When we become so-called ‘mature’, we try to hide our emotions and weigh our life down. Having a pet is like unraveling your inner innocence and brings joy to life.

My mom was totally against having a pet in the house because she was too afraid of a furry companion. But I wanted a pet to do the happiness experiment. So, I adopted a cute little cat and named it Mini. Just to inform you — in my culture, we live with our parents, even when we are grown-up.

For the first few days, my mom kept a safe distance from my cat. But things changed very quickly. Within a week, my mom started to get closer to the cat overcoming her fear. Now, my mom sings songs to my cat, calls it with many beautiful and adorable names, and takes care of it with great enthusiasm and love.

My mom treats Mini as just like a human child and adores it too much. She said that now she can’t imagine living without my cute cat Mini.

Even my reserved father spends time with Mini before going to the office in the morning. They go to walk together and play hide and seek. Moreover, my other siblings love Mini as well. Mini is now a thread that holds our family together with joy, happiness, and love.

It Keeps You Busy and Kills Your Negative Thoughts

Whether you admit it or not — raising a pet (especially a dog or a cat) is way much harder than raising a human child. At least your human kids can indicate or inform you about what’s wrong with their bodies after a certain age, but a pet can never tell you anything about its physical condition. So, you should always need to be extra careful and observant.

For me — taking care of Mini is a big part of my daily life. Now I have almost no time to waste and no place for negative thoughts. My cat Mini claims my attention and, in return, gives me positive vibes and joy. Feeding, playing, taking care of a pet is a tough yet highly rewarding job.

Mini is the first thing I see in the morning, and it’s also the last thing I see before going to bed. Well, sometimes, Mini sleeps right beside my pillow. Isn’t that so sweet?

If you are a person who is dealing with mental issues, negativity, heartbreaks, or anything, I will highly recommend you adopt a pet. I bet it will keep you busy and free from negative thoughts. Consequently, your day-to-day life will be happier than before.

A Pet Helps You Improve Your Health

Oh god! My cat Mini always keeps me on the go. I play at least two to three hours every day with my cat, and it has become my new exercise. As I have been working from home for nearly a year, this helps me keep my body fit and functional. Anyway, there are many studies to confirm that having a pet is great for your health.

Citing a study, an article on NCHR states that having a dog or cat actually lowers the risk of heart disease and stress. It also says that the innocent act of stroking a pet can help lower your blood pressure and cholesterol. Isn’t that incredible?

Pets improve your mood as well. After adopting a cat, I have become happier than before, and my mood improved a lot. I get less anxious, stressed, or angry. Now I enjoy a healthier life than before.

Let me tell you an interesting fact — Friedmann and colleagues (1980) found that dog owners were 8.6 times more likely to still be alive one year after a heart attack than non-dog owners. How amazing is that!

Final Thoughts

From practical experience, I’ve witnessed that having a pet is an excellent way to enhance your happiness. It teaches you to be kind, caring and gives you an experience of a lifetime. And the feeling of caring for a pet is something you cannot find anywhere else.

If you don’t have a pet of your own, I will encourage you to adopt one and experience a happier day-to-day life.

Love your pet — it will love you in return.
