FICTION | DRABBLE WRITING PROMPT | RANDOM WORD

A 100-Word Drabble: Lie

Why must it be so confusing? I can’t lie. This challenge gives me misgivings. A bit of humor.

Am I the only one who struggles with lie and lay? Why can’t I just lay on the bed for a nap without all the grammatical quandaries?

I’d hate to lay an egg and say I want to lie down for a nap when it should be lay down.

Let’s not even get into past tense or present and past participles. Why’d that lady get all snarky when I said I had laid down for a nap earlier?

Merriam’s no help. ‘To lay’ means to put something down gently. How else am I going to lay down on the bed?

This started as a random word drabble challenge by Nancy Oglesby, but it is not technically a fiction. So, I self-published, and I’ll get back to Random Word Drabble Challenge tomorrow. If you’d like to join, check the requirements here:

Here are three other drabbles I wrote for your enjoyment.

That’s all for today. Please engage with my article by highlighting something you found interesting and leaving a comment. Come back soon.
