A 100-Word Drabble: Final Destination Karma

Karma is rarely as swift as this.

Charlie walked toward their apartment, looked up, and saw the smoke.

He bolted for the backstairs, hoping she was out.

But she was still asleep, as was their cat. He carried her out and went back for Whiskers.

Trapped inside he was severely burnt on his face, neck, and hands.

In the hospital, she said, “Look at your face. I can’t marry you.”

He pleaded and begged until the tears sprang free. From the window he watched her go.

She ran for the bus, as another bus hit her, and drug her down the street — as he screamed and screamed.

A drabble is a 100-word story. It’s exactly 100 words and typically fiction.

Here are three other drabbles for your enjoyment.
