Romance and Love
#89 — What Do You Say To Somebody Who Has Fallen In Love With a Medium Author?
It’s more complex a question than you might first think…
Y’know, my first reading of that article made me think — “Well, that’s just the 21st century talking, isn’t it?”
I thought — “We’re all swiping left, right, and center, running hell-west and crooked without ever seeing more of the actual person than a name or a face or a voice, or even just a pixelated imaged upon our screen.”
But then I thought — “Isn’t that what we’ve always fallen in love with? We fall in love with what we THINK the person is like and then we get to find out for real.”
In short, first we fall in love.
We “see” a person and we feel this movement deep inside of our mind, and then it moves down to our heart, and possibly even a little lower than that.
So that’s the first thing we learn about love.
Love is bound by the rules of gravity.
But is this a new phenomenon?
(and I challenge you to say that word “phenomenon” without thinking of the Ma-na-ma-na Muppets”.
Just stop and think about it for a minute.
I’ve met folks who met on the internet and married and lived happily ever after.
I’ve met folks whose relationship started out as pen pals, swapping postcards through the mail who were married and lived happily ever after.
I’ve met folks whose relationship had to remain hidden, due to tax laws or pension regulations, and they still lived happily ever after.
And yes, I still believe in happily ever after.
Call me cornball, if you wish.
What I’m trying to say is that love can manifest itself in an infinite number of forms or formats. Love isn’t always talking to the family and asking their blessing.
Love knows no rules, no structure, no gender or nationality restrictions.
Love can happen in an awful lot of ways.
Mind you, the whole article could easily be just a dramatic fictionalization. I mean, the writer has the pseudonym “Anonymous Teacher”, and it could be just a STORY about a writer falling in love with the stories and articles of another writer here at Medium.
That’s not to demean the work, you understand. I’m a writer. I make up shit all of the time. That’s what we writers do. We embroider reality. We tell truthful lies, or sometimes we just lie about the truth.
However, I”m not lying about one thing.
Let me make this declaration, here in the wild west of Medium-town: “My name is Steve Vernon and I believe in love, dammit!”
Now let me get on back to writing about man-eating scarecrows, werewolf ghosts, outhouses on the edge of infinity and such…
Now, if you REALLY want to hear about man-eating scarecrows start following along with my full-length, fifty-five chapter, horror novel which IS available on Kindle, Kobo, Smashwords in paperback, hardcover, audiobook and the like- but I’m posting here on Medium ONE CHAPTER AT A TIME — and if you’re a Medium member you can start reading it today!
