100 Stories by 100 Writers — Vision and submission guidelines

That’s my grandma (pictured by Edu Carvalho). She loves Medium.

Vision

“100 Stories by 100 Writers” is an homage to the diversity of Medium’s voices. The publication will host 100 stories by 100 writers. No more, no less.

We would love to have you there!

1. The Rules — what you can expect from the editors
2. Topics, Pictures, Oxford Comma, and Other Formatting Requirements
3. How to become a writer
4. Sections you will find at the top of the publication
5. Anti-Vision

The Rules — what you can expect from the editors

We will follow five rules (six — really):

  1. One story per writer.
  2. We will publish stories on a “first submit, first publish” basis. Meaning you cannot choose your number. Sorry.
  3. We will amend your title to reflect your story’s number. “Your Title” will become: “#X — Your Title.”
  4. We won’t accept previously published stories. (The reason is that we want to keep the numbers in order. Medium’s system adds previously published articles based on their date of first publication, not based on their date of inclusion.)
  5. We will add a link to these guidelines at the end of your story (unless we forget).

Rule #6 is Medium Rules (see below).

Topics, Pictures, Oxford Comma, and Other Formatting Requirements

Except for The Rules (see above) and The Medium Rules (see below), you’re free to do whatever you want. We don’t have any requirements in terms of languages, topics, tags, subtitles, pictures, poetry, et cetera.

Your stories can be fiction (any genre), non-fiction (creative or not), and anything in between.

Tags including the word “Smillew” are appreciated but not required.

How to become a writer

Follow these four simple steps:

  1. Whisper a prayer for the Algo, the omnipotent chooser — for further distribution. (Doesn’t hurt)
  2. Scratch your nose with your left little finger. (Because, why not?)
  3. Drink a glass of water. (Good for your health)
  4. Leave a comment on this article. (Gets you added as a writer)

Sections at the top of the publication

On top of the usual suspects, you will find the following sections, each linking to one story:

  • Top views
  • Top reads
  • Top ratio (highest read ratio)
  • Top fans

We will add these sections once we reach 20 stories and update them regularly (till we close the publication after story #100).

Anti-Vision

“100 Stories by 100 Writers” is a publicity stunt for Smillew Rahcuef. As always, he lied in the text above. Namely, when he said the publication would publish exactly 100 stories. It’s, in fact, 101 with these submission guidelines.

But does it matter?

“100 Stories by 100 Writers” is what we will make of it. Join us and help build this 100-story monument to the glory of Medium. We would love to have you there!

All the best.
