It’s the Thin Lizzy Full Concert U.K 1983 which really gets off on the right foot with Jail Break. The concert footage was uploaded by MetalWheel on Youtube.
Tonight there’s gonna be a jail break!
I was extremely happy to watch this entire concert footage. With lead singer and bass player front and center, Phil Lynott, just a classic compilation of tunes.
I can feel it in my bones; this is the one…
The guitar duo of Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham is electric to the tee. If you’re into bands with dual-guitar players — say Aerosmith, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden — then this is another band for you to check out!
Don’t even get me started on Cold Sweat, which was the band’s hit in 1983.
I put my money in the suitcase, headed for the big race…I got me a heavy bet
The bass comes in so strong, accompanying the lyrics in a way that no other bands have done, in my view. The guitar solos and drum beats are phenomenal. That brings me to the band’s drummer Brian Downey — co-founder of the band Thin Lizzy.
In an era where drummers really carried the hard rock sound, while guitarists competed against one another for who could sound louder and melodic (not so heavy), Downey’s drum beats carry the bass groove into infinity and beyond!
There is a demon among us; and his soul belongs in hell
The above lyric comes from one of the band’s slower tunes, “The Sun Goes Down”. The bass line and soft drum beat drives the song, which has a deep lyrical content. It will definitely make you think — “when all is said and done, the sun goes down.”
I don’t know if this band gets any credit for its deep lyrical content, but the band surely gets recognition for the turmoil occuring outside of the music.
In an article written about the band’s legacy in 2020, Irish Times quoted one of the band members in their title: ‘Heroin was the worst mistake we made’. According to the piece, Thin Lizzy was not very impressionable on American record producers, either, for their lack of attention on their music careers, always getting into some kind of trouble, whether in London, Paris or New York, as the band was becoming more popular.
The Boys Are Back In Town…
Interestingly, I found that there was a box set and documentary released by the band in 2022.
According to the band’s official blog site, Thin Lizzy is:
One of the defining rock groups of the 20th Century, Thin Lizzy began life in Dublin in 1969 when childhood friends Phil Lynott and Brian Downey were approached by two former members of Van Morrison’s band ‘Them’, Eric Wrixon (keyboards) and Eric Bell (guitar).
But I was most surprised to find out from the Band Blog that this ’83 concert in the UK was the band’s final performance before the Farewell Concert in Germany later that year.
Man, what an epic concert. Get me to the Metaverse so that I can relive it!

Taking a mutual inspiration from a Medium story and March Madness 2023, I decided to write an AI risk assessment by applying an analogy from a basketball game scenario. This basketball game scenario serves as an analogy to explain AI risk assessments. Read more about AI and the Future Concepts I put together for the publication Areas & Producers.
