8 Easy Ways To Travel With As Little As Possible

You’ll love this new style of travelling!

So nicely packed! Photo by Kindel Media

Recently, I wrote a story about how I like to travel with as little as possible. Here is how I do it!

1️⃣ Consider Sharing Items

If you’re travelling with someone, discuss and agree to share items. Do you both get dry eyes on the plane? You can share one bottle of eyedrops, just don’t touch your eye with the dropper!

A little planning can go a long way with this one. You can even share a few t-shirts with each other. More space in your luggage!

2️⃣ Multi-Use Items Are Your Friend

Bring items that can be used for multiple purposes. For example, a simple shawl can keep you warm and shield you from the sun.

It can also double as a personal blanket on the plane.

What about makeup? Lipstick can be used as blush. Heck, if you’re up to it, you can even go barefaced the entire time!

3️⃣ Simplify Skincare

All those heavy and cumbersome little jars are a hassle. Skip the fancy skincare and stick with the basics. I used to pack bottles and jars of skincare.

Then I thought better of it and started leaving them all at home. It’s too liberating! A good moisturizer might be all you need. Leave the eye creams and serums at home. Here’s an even better tip — use all those small skincare packets you get as samples! Toss the empty packet when you’re done. YAHOO!

And here’s another awesome hack for your skincare. I wrote about it in this story here. Be sure not to miss it, you won’t be disappointed!

4️⃣ Travel Garments

Try quick-dry travel socks and underwear. There’s a great selection on Amazon! For a week-long trip, you might only need to bring 2 or 3 pairs.

There’s no need to bring 8 pairs! Remember that big plastic bag of dirty socks and underwear that takes up a ton of room in your luggage? No need for that either! Reclaim that space.

Travel garments are designed to dry quickly, so you don’t have to worry about waiting too long for them to dry.

5️⃣ You Don’t Need Just In Case Items

Forget the “just in case” items. Chances are, you’ll never use them. And if you really need it? Buy it!

I have always packed “extra” clothes because I thought I might need them. I realized there were always clothes that just stayed in my suitcase for my entire trip! You guessed it. I don’t bring them along anymore.

6️⃣ Toss Non-Essential Items

If the item is not essential, don’t bring it. When we’re packing, we often toss in items we think we might need or we feel that it might come in useful. Most of the time, you end up using only your essential items. All you need are the basics, like clothes and toiletries.

The other “nice to have” items can be left at home. Something like a nail filer probably doesn’t need to come along on a short trip.

7️⃣ The Right Size Luggage Is Important

Avoid the temptation to get a large suitcase. Bring a suitcase that can fit your belongings, with a little extra space for souvenirs. You won’t feel tempted to fill it up with things you don’t need.

It’s easier to handle a smaller suitcase anyways!

8️⃣ Leave Jewellery At Home

Do away with the jewellery. I only wear earrings on my ears and that’s all. I used to bring maybe a necklace or two to match my outfits. Soon, I ditched that too.

Besides, you won’t risk losing anything from your expensive bling collection.

And those are all the tips to travel with as little as possible! The more I travel, the less I like to bring. When I’m out and about, I want to enjoy the present moment. I don’t want to be struggling with carrying all my stuff or trying to find things. I’ll bring the bare essentials and that’s all I need!

Are there any other things you leave at home? Do share with me in the comments below! I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you travel with as little as possible!
