6 Gift Ideas for People in the Medical Field

Here are some wonderful gift ideas that I’ve either gifted already or am planning to!

Looking for a gift for a medical student, nurse, doctor, or someone else in the medical field?

Then this blog post is for you!

Here is a variety of different ideas for those hard-working people, ranging from items to help the work-life balance, all the way to useful medicine-related gifts.

Let’s jump right into it!

1. (Personalized) Mug with Medical References

Nowadays there is such a grand array of products to choose from!

For example, staying classic, you could go with a medicine-related mug with relatable and funny slogans.

Such as this mug + cup combination “before and after patients”.

Or personalize it even more by adding their name on the mug!

Mugs are a good old classic but can be personalized to something special.

Also, they can hold that precious coffee or tea that keeps the student / nurse / doctor fit for the day!

You could also go ahead and get a thermos travel coffee mug if you know that your person is always on the go!

2. Medical Outfit — like Scrubs?

Want to gift them something to wear?

Well, there are scrubs in plenty of different color variations.

Or, you could also go with a doctor’s coat.

All you’ve got to find out now is their clothing size!

You could even go further and create a design on it to give it a personalized touch!

What I once gifted my boyfriend, who also studies medicine, is this hoodie:

I bought a regular blank hoodie in his favorite color and then stitched an anatomical heart onto it!

3. Medical Equipment

Stethoscope: Photo by Hush Naidoo Jade Photography on Unsplash; Similar one on Amazon

Something doctors almost always carry around?

A stethoscope!

From personal experience, this was one of the first expensive purchases I made when entering medical school and till today, I still use the same one!

There are different colors you can find them in and extras, like a pediatric version or special ones for (future) cardiologists.

Because this one is more on the expensive end, …

A related gift idea (that I got for myself too :) is a stethoscope case, such as this one.

Some more ideas:

4. Something to read

Book: Photo by Sincerely Media on Unsplash

Books are always a safe choice for presents.

What comes to mind first might be classic fiction books, which are great to balance a stressful day of work and/or studying.

If the person you’re gifting to likes to read a specific type of book, you could go around a bookstore and look in that genre!

Another possibility is a book specific to the medical field they might want to go into, for example on “How to be a good Cardiologist”, etc.

A book that I received on my last birthday, is This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay.

This author outlines his experiences as a young doctor in a very humorous way — a great read!

5. Spa (Kit) / Care Package

Another present for them to de-stress could be a voucher for a spa or sauna day.

Or you could even gift them a set for a DIY home spa!

Similar to the spa kit, you could put together a care package, specific for the person it’s for.

An example:

“Movie night care package”: DVD or Netflix-voucher + comfortable outfit + snacks!

6. Medical Game

How about a game night?

It’s so fun to spend time with others and play some games!

There are even a bunch of medical-related games for those in the medical environment —

For example “Asystole”, which is like taboo, but with medical terms.

(Sorry, it’s in German!)

=> But! This is pretty advanced and could be difficult for medical students at the beginning of their studies.

Try it together for a challenge!
