5 Tips To Write 2 Articles Per Day

My secret to squeeze more out of my lemons

Simple ideas to boost your writing

Have you ever noticed how some writers on Medium show up every single day on your feed? Some of them might pop up even twice. My goal is to be one of them…

I just published my article #216 in almost 4 months here. I started writing one piece per day, and as the months went by, I gradually increased the volume. It wasn't planned and there is not a magic number I am trying to hit; it’s rather an organic growth and evolution as a writer.

I also find writing and coffee quite addictive.

Here are some tips that helped, inspired and motivated me to write more and create my own ecosystem:

1.Create a habit: everything you do on a daily basis becomes a habit by default, whether it’s a good one or a bad one (like checking Medium one last time before turning off the lights). I always write early in the morning, before my kids are up and it’s become my me moment, a treat to my soul. Find your moment, your space and make it your temple.

2. Write single idea articles: if you have an idea that just popped up, don’t wait for the whole story: just turn it into an article. I have written multiple of those like “The Art Of Concise Writing”, “Why I Write At Dawn”… 150 words is your sweet spot. That number is not random: it’s the maximum allowed my one of my favourite pubs here, The Shortform.

3. Create series: I have written a few series of articles, i.e, pieces that fall under a same topic and have a connection or sequential logic. For example I have a series about “Publishing My First Book”, another one about Medium learnings, likeThe Medium Clapping Etiquette. Find larger themes that are your umbrella and let the stories flow from them.

4. Create your Medium Lists: most of us like to write about very different topics. In my most recent article, I talked about how I created 7 Medium Lists to classify my articles and they are now displayed in my profile. Having a clear list of your topics is a great way to help you browse through your own catalogue and find new ideas to write about. It’s like organising your wardrobe and finding new stuff to wear amongst your old goodies!

5. Read your fans’ comments: very often your audience will highlight words or phrases in your articles that can act as seeds for inspiration. I often find a follow-up piece in something a reader commented. Learn to listen to your audience and let them be your guide.

Your own articles are incubators of new articles!

Writing is a bit like lemonade: you need to find juicy lemons (ideas and inspiration) but you also need to find the right tools and space to give your audience the tastiest lemonade…then they will want some more!
