5 Interesting Statistics You Probably Didn’t Know About Medium
Number 3 was shocking to me. Depends on how you view these things.

- Per a 2023 Techjury report, Medium is one of the most popular blogs in the world with a high domain authority of 95.
However, that alone does not guarantee your articles will rank high on Google — the quality of your content is what matters as this excerpt explains: “Google Search is a product. Its main goal is to deliver the most comprehensive and detailed stories to the searchers. If your story is not the best one, it won’t rank, no matter what.”
👉 Quick Question: A few of my articles have ranked at the top of Google without any SEO or gimmicks. While I saw an uptick in views, there was no difference in earnings or subscribers. Personally, I don’t see what the point is beyond a brief ego boost since external views don’t pay. What are your thoughts on ranking high on Google?
2. 26% of Medium readers are Americans followed by India (7%). Around 4% are from the UK and 3% from Canada. Readers from other countries constitute the remaining 56.52%.
3. I already knew that there are more male Medium users (55%) than female and even wrote about it, however, what I didn’t know was that it was predominantly Caucasian (71%)!
🎈 I’m curious, do you factor in these things when you craft an article or are you more interested in writing for the sake of writing? I know writers who primarily cater to #3 and do very well. What are your thoughts on that?
4. I read somewhere that the most popular tags on Medium have over a million followers. I did some research and found it was true — here are some of the most popular categories on Medium👇
Self-Improvement — 2 million followers
Writing — 2.1 million followers
Entrepreneurship — 1.3 million followers
Politics — 1.6 million followers
Life — 2 million followers
Business — 2.6 million followers
Mental Health — 1.9 million followers
Blockchain (1 million followers)
Books (1.8 million followers)
Your girl writes predominantly in two of the niches from above list above. I entirely credit my readers for picking my niches for me or I would have been floating around nicheless.
🎈I am curious, what are your thoughts on niches? If someone were to describe you as a writer, how do you think it would be?
I have to say, and yes my views have changed as I learn and grow, that it is a great idea to have a niche.
It is safe to say that if someone were to describe me as a blogger — it would be — “Yeah, she writes relationship and romance stuff.”
The unkind ones might roll their eyes and remark that I seem to be always falling in and out of love.
Example #1
💡Lol. What they don’t realize is that it provides entertainment/escaping reality which ranks pretty high on what people like to read according to the Pew Research Center 👇

Example #2
This is why it is so important to have a niche. It helps you stand out from the crowd of over half a million writers.
What do I mean? Half a million writers? 👀
Yup, you heard right. Imma break it down for you 👇

5. So let’s see how everyone is doing earnings-wise courtesy of the Techjury 2023 report which states that approximately 127,050 writers, constituting 70% of Medium’s active writer base, are currently generating income by placing their articles behind a paywall.
1️⃣Group 1: 48K or 6.2% of the active writers make over $100 per month.
Are you surprised by these figures?
2️⃣Group 2: 116,200 writers earn monthly incomes ranging from $0.01 to $99.
I am definitely surprised (in a good way) by these figures.
3️⃣Group 3: 30% don’t earn anything probably because their country is not in the MPP.
👉How about you? What are your thoughts on earnings? Were you surprised or dismayed by the above stats? Do share!
