Did You Know That the Majority of Medium Users are Male in the 25–34 Age Group?
Do you take these factors into account when you write?
In case you didn’t know, audience analysis is important to be better able to craft content that they would find appealing. Some may say they are here to pen their thoughts and couldn’t care less about who they reach or don’t. Well, then this post is not for them because I am more of the mindset of why lose the opportunity to reach a thousand readers vs a few simply because I don’t want to incorporate a few simple things.
According to the latest from the market intelligence platform, Similarweb, Medium.com had a global rank of 385 and 134 million visits in April 2023.
That’s a lot of visits!
This made me curious to find out more about the audience demographics and the topics they were interested in browsing.

🎈As per the above diagram, the largest age group of visitors is 25–34 year-olds (Desktop) and the second largest group is 18–24-year-olds.
The smallest group is those over the age of 65.
🎈66.35% of Medium users are male and 33.65% are female.
🎈The most traffic to Medium comes from the USA— a whopping 26.69% followed by India (8%) and the UK (4%).
🎈Medium users are most interested in topics pertaining to computers, electronics and technology, programming & developer software, and news.
I don’t write about any of the ‘hot’ topics but my posts still manage to reach many readers. Here’s how👇
3 ways how I get more eyeballs on my Medium blogs
✅By writing posts that appeal to more than just one age group:
If you read my blogs, it is not easy to pinpoint my age. Many think I am in my early 20s because of some of the topics I write on. I don’t like restricting myself to a box and writing my age so to speak. I also think my writing style doesn’t come easily to everyone.
✅Quality over quantity:
According to a recent survey by Growth Badger, quality of content is rated the most important success factor among all bloggers. Pretty self-explanatory in my opinion.
✅Active approach towards blogging:
Many writers hit publish and twiddle their thumbs while waiting for traffic to come to them. That doesn’t happen unless you go viral or get boosted. I’ve had success with both and yet I still do not take a passive approach toward blogging👇
NewsBreak| LinkedIn| Twitter| Facebook| Instagram| Quora| Mastodon
I also am active in the Medium community both as an editor and also with regard to reading, clapping, and engaging with other writers.
✅A regular posting schedule:
A HubSpot article mentioned that those who post 16 articles per month get 3.5 times more traffic than those with less than 4 posts. So adhering to a regular publishing schedule has its advantages.
✅Click worthy headlines:
I can’t emphasize the importance of a great headline. Spending some time working on your headline can make a big difference. Here is how I craft mine the old-fashioned way👇
And there you have it.
🎈I’m curious, what are your thoughts on the age distribution and whether they impact the performance of your articles? Do share!
