5 ChatGPT Features to Maximize Your Writing Potential on Medium
And how to use ChatGPT to leverage your writing

Do you ever feel like writer’s block is holding you back from crafting the perfect Medium article?
I bet you have experienced it for sure — as we all have experienced at some point.
Well, imagine having a tool that could help you overcome those roadblocks and unleash your full writing potential. This already exists and it is called ChatGPT. It is a cutting-edge technology that uses advanced natural language processing to assist with writing.
In this article, we’re going to show you how ChatGPT can take your Medium writing to the next level. We will be discussing 5 key features of ChatGPT that can help writers achieve their goals on Medium, including inspiration, bibliography evaluation, writing prompts, article feedback and title suggestions.
Let’s discover together how to unleash your creative potential and write better Medium articles 👇🏻
#1. Generating article ideas
ChatGPT can help your generate ideas for you articles on Medium by using prompts or questions related to the topic you want to write about. The model can provide suggestions based on its training on a vast amount of text and can help any writer find new angles to approach their topic.
For instance, you can ask ChatGPT to give you some interesting ideas to write about in your Medium account.

Or you can even go further and ask for some specific field. For instance, I want to start using Google Cloud Platform for my future articles. I can ask ChatGPT to give me some help and suggest me a list of some interesting articles that I could make. It is a great shortcut for inspiration — of course, you will not like all suggestions, but it can be of help when looking for an idea ;)

#2. Bibliography Evaluation
Writing an article requires a big number of steps, including an initial phase of research. Before beginning the actual writing process, it is important to gather information and background knowledge on the topic to be covered.
ChatGPT can be really useful during this initial step. It can help writers summarize large amounts of information and provide a condensed version of the content — so you can discard faster the sources you do not want and focus on the ones that interest you.
This can be particularly helpful for writers who need to condense complex information into a more digestible format for their readers — again, always take ChatGPT text as drafts but not as final versions. Naturally written articles are always better! :)
Just imagine you want to write an article about The Infinite Scroll Effect — I can confirm you will have to read lots of articles and sources to structure a good insight on it as I did in one of my first posts.
I wasted the most time deciding what sources to use — so ChatGPT can help you boost this process. For instance, you can ask it to summarize the previous article, so you can decide whether you consider it or not instead of having to read it all.

#3. Writing prompts
Do you know the Blank Page Panic term?
I bet you do.
It is so hard to start writing off a blank page. Of course, all writers have come to find their own ways to overcome it, but… again ChatGPT might make our life easier!
ChatGPT can provide writers with prompts to help them get started with their writing. For example, if a writer is struggling with a certain section of their article, ChatGPT can provide them with prompts to help them continue writing and get them their final — and necessary — inspiration.
Or it can even help by suggesting some initial skeleton so you can start working based on a draft — and not off a blank page, which can be so scary sometimes.
Let’s give the previous paragraph to ChatGPT and let’s see how it recommends us to continue…

As ChatGPT just stated, next feature is…
#4. Providing feedback and enhancing our writing style
ChatGPT can also provide writers with feedback on their writing, such as suggestions for improvement, grammatical corrections, and advice on sentence structure. This can help writers to identify areas for improvement and become better writers over time.
ChatGPT can also suggest ways to enhance a writer’s writing style, such as providing alternative word choices and rephrasing sentences to make them clearer and more concise. This can help writers to improve their writing and make it more engaging for their readers.
This can be especially useful for non-native English writers — such as me. Sometimes we know expressions and idioms in our language and have no idea how to translate them into English so they can still fit. Believe me, ChatGPT got us covered on this ;)
For instance, let’s give to ChatGPT the corresponding text of the first feature and see what he thinks about it.

As you can observe, ChatGPT approved my text! :D
#5. Ideas for titles
Titles play a crucial role in determining the success of an article — as they serve as the first impression for potential readers. A well-crafted title can draw in readers, provide context and give a sense of what the article is about, making them more likely to continue reading. On the other hand, a poorly written or misleading title can discourage readers and hurt the article’s overall impact.
This is why having a good idea for the title is the most important part of finishing up your article. We can take advantage of ChatGPT and let it suggest us different titles so we can get inspired. Let’s try to find the best title for this article.

As you can observe, it gave me 5 options. I like the first one, but I want to change it a little bit so it fits even more. I want to state how many features I will be talking about and want it shorter, so I end up with the following title:

Let’s see what does ChatGPT think about it:

As you can observe, ChatGPT approves it and thinks it is concise and effectively reflects the content of the article. So we got this! :D
Main Conclusions
With ChatGPT, writers can generate new ideas for articles, summarize information from sources, get prompts to start writing, receive feedback to improve their writing, and get suggestions to enhance their titles.
The idea here is learn how to take advantage of this powerful tool and leverage our writing without losing our personal style.
