4 Spiritual Archetypal Levels Most People Will Go Through on Their Awakening Journey
The greatest among them is the least of them all

1. The Sleeper
The spiritual awakening journey is hardly ever taken in a straight line. It’s a journey of twists and turns, going up, then crashing down, going back, and coming forth. It's a journey of learning to unlearn, becoming to unbecoming, and believing to stop believing. It's a journey of a complete unknown not knowing where the path may be leading, but still many remain asleep through it all.
Many people remain asleep and maybe it’s because they have nothing to do. Maybe this is the lifetime where they rest because being awake is hard work.
When you sleep, your eyes are closed and so there's nothing to see and therefore no real work to be done.
When you sleep, you’re unaware of anything and you don’t concern yourself with thinking and asking deeper questions. You just don’t care when you’re a sleeper. You’re unaware.
Sleepers aren’t concerned with the bigger picture or a higher purpose. They live their lives based on what they see, and nothing else.
There is no such thing as spirituality for sleepers, but they can be very religious. They religiously follow the crowd and don’t try to question anything or to be any different.
They accept everything they’re told as the ultimate truth and they question and seek nothing.
When life is going great, the sleeper enjoys his sleep and when things go bad; the sleeper feels as if they are the victim. Nothing is ever the fault of the sleeper. After all, they’ve been asleep this whole time. How can they be blamed?
Sleepers never take a look at themselves. They feel as if everything is being done to them. They always point a finger, ignoring the three pointing back.
Taking responsibility isn’t something the sleeper knows to do very well and so they continue to sleep until they die.
But a lucky sleeper gets shaken awake and all of a sudden, they can’t believe their eyes. They can’t believe what they’ve slept through they must tell the story.
2. The Storyteller
The storyteller has woken up to reality as it truly is. Eyes are wide open because the scales have fallen off. The veil has been removed and they can see it all so clearly.
They see all the time wasted but they see it’s not too late.
They begin to learn and ask questions. Their knowledge about the universe broadens and they begin to put the pieces together.
Everything they knew was a lie.
They start seeing the world for what it really is. They see through all the facades and they are ready to tell their story.
Where the sleeper suppresses, the storyteller expresses.
The storyteller tells the world about scary things they've slept through. They tell the world what has happened to them.
This is the level where people do the most talking. It’s almost like coming out of the storm. There’s a lot to tell the world about. There’s a lot to scream about. A lot to write about, sing about, and paint about.
They step into the spotlight to tell their story.
They must take on fancy titles and positions to get their message across. They share and share and share some more.
Storytellers share to the point of oversharing.
At this point, they are still pointing their finger at the world and not taking full responsibility for their life. They share their story as a victim. They tell the world what has happened to them not seeing how it happened for them.
But sharing alone isn’t healing. The storyteller soon realizes that but the storyteller is not concerned about healing yet.
There is so much power in the storytelling stage. They are just getting things off their chest and that is a wonderful feeling, but that wonderful feeling comes from the outside and so it doesn’t last very long.
When the audience leaves, they’re left all alone to face themselves.
Storytellers are lonely. They create worlds but at the same time, they are not really living in them. They feel separated from the worlds they create because they’re not the same as the world they live in.
In their real world, there are things underneath the surface. Demons lurk in the shadows and monsters crawl under the bed.
They know it’s time to start the healing process.
The storyteller does all that sharing, but at the same time; they know something is missing, so they start seeking.
3. The Seeker
This is the level where you will do the least talking because you realize that all the talking does not even matter. There is so much behind the shadows that needs to be addressed and these are not things you share with the world. These are things that the seeker does in private without telling the world.
The seeker becomes like an alchemist, and it becomes all about transmutation and transformation. It’s where they start doing the real inner work. The shadow work is done and they start taking a look at the condition of their heart.
They don’t just go on and talk about it. They shut their mouth and go away to do the work. They disappear from the spotlight to work on themselves.
The seeker journeys alone to find wisdom, knowledge, and truth wherever it may be found because it is what they need to continue. This pursuit also has at its core the search for God.
The seeker becomes someone who is reading and reflecting and sifting through traditional beliefs to determine what makes sense and what doesn't.
Their journey is about soul searching.
Seekers often feel the urge to leave their life, work, and relationships to find the true version of themselves and the true meaning of life. They look for something more in life than simple pleasures desiring more depth in everything. Their consciousness craves all things deep. Shallow relationships and conversations no longer do it.
They take time away from it all to find their truth.
Turning off all electronics for a while for some introspection will seem appealing. Uninstalling every social media app for inward reflection will seem like the right move.
They yearn for anything thought-provoking. Movies that leave them in deep thought long after it’s over. Songs with a lyric that makes their soul come forth to see. Deep thought-provoking conversations that lights a spark within.
They crave to swim in deep waters.
They look for the rabbit hole and request the red pills. Seekers search for the truth and they find it.
Their truth is that they must take on the lowly position of servant to make a real difference.
4. The Servant
By the time a person reaches this archetypal level, they have mastered their ego and placed it in the backseat. They’ve become well versed in understanding the mysteries of the universe. They’ve researched tirelessly, learned endlessly, and acquired a vast amount of knowledge.
The servant has learned a great deal, but the more they learn, the more they realize how much they do not know. But one thing they know for sure is that love is the greatest of them all.
Without love, they have nothing.
You could have woken up from a slumber of a lifetime, but without love, you gained nothing. You may be the greatest storyteller the world has ever seen, but without love, you are nothing. You may be the most serious of all seekers seeking the face of God, but without love, you get nowhere.
Without knowing love, you know nothing at all.
Love becomes the servant's foundation.
At this level of the spiritual journey, inner work has been done and so a person is able to fully love and accept themselves. Because they can love and accept themselves, it is so much easier for them to love and accept others. And because they can love others, they have no problem serving others.
They are motivated by love to serve.
They are not here to be served. They are here to serve. To them, being a servant is an honor.
Being a servant is not about position or skill. It’s not about titles. It’s about humility.
The storytellers are into titles to show the world who they are but the servants are secure enough to serve others without worrying about what others think of them. They have nothing to prove, nothing to lose, and nothing to hide.
Servant leaders don’t wait for someone to tell them what to do. They see a need and they meet it.
They serve the biggest role in society. A servant’s heart exposes pride in others.
Servants are seen as the least of them all. Many people possess the mindset that people should never stoop so low to serve but that’s a worldly mindset.
The greatest among them is the least of them all.
The least of them all run errands for those who need help, wait on tables when the family gathers, and perform menial tasks for others. They seek to add value to the lives of others and their primary way to do it is by serving.
It’s their calling, purpose, and life mission to serve humanity. When they serve, they add value to the people who receive their service.
One of the coolest ways they serve those who are broken and lacking is by approaching them not as if they’re better than them, but as if they need something from them. They approach the needy humbly — like a beggar. They give dignity and power to those who have none.
They make people feel special about themselves no matter who they are.
Servant leaders are called to perform small acts anonymously. When they do good with one hand, the other hand never finds out. They give to others without requiring praise or recognition because they’ve been given abundantly.
They serve by lifting people up.
Whatever it is they do to serve, people always feel better about themselves because they’ve been served by the greatest.
Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last and the servant of all. And there’s a blessing in being a humble servant. Those who humble themselves are exalted.
