Measuring and recalling your day’s actions can bring immense positivity to your next day’s tasks and also help you to have a sound sleep. I have been practicing this simple trick for a few months now and it has been a great booster to my productivity. I initially started with more questions and realized that the more complex the process, the more unlikely you will follow it. After some rounds of practice and experiments, I have been successful in just asking myself those limited questions that can help me memorize the actionable items the next day and keep improving on a daily basis.

Before I dive into those simple queries, one fundamental thing I would like you to follow when you start this process is to start thinking from the first action you took in the morning to the point you started asking yourself those 4 questions before going to sleep. Let's go through those questions👇:

1. What did I achieve today?

Tracking your daily accomplishments, achievements, satisfaction, and completion of tasks is crucial for monitoring your habits and their impact on your daily life. This can include anything from small actions like making your bed in the morning, to completing a minor task or a major creative project. Every achievement, no matter how small, is a “drop” in the bucket that contributes to overall happiness and contentment.

Example:

Today, I completed a presentation for my team at work, finished reading a chapter of a book, and went for a 30-minute walk in the park. These are all achievements that you can be proud of and reflect on before going to sleep.

2. Is it important to be continued?

Continuing what you have achieved today is crucial in order to maintain the momentum and keep moving forward towards your goals. It is important to evaluate whether the tasks or activities that you have accomplished today are important enough to be continued tomorrow and in the future.

Example:

The presentation for my team at work is important to be continued as I need to present it to the rest of the company tomorrow. On the other hand, reading a chapter of a book and going for a walk are not necessarily important to be continued tomorrow, but they are still good habits that I should try to maintain.

3. Can it be further improved?

Reflecting on what you have achieved today and asking yourself if it can be further improved is a great way to identify areas of growth and potential for improvement. This helps you to continuously learn and evolve, and to make sure that you are always striving for excellence.

Example:

The presentation for my team at work can be further improved by incorporating feedback from my colleagues and making necessary changes to make it more effective. The chapter I read could be improved by taking notes and highlighting key points for future reference. Going for a walk could be improved by increasing the intensity or duration to make it a more effective workout.

4. What do I need to do to improve it further?

Identifying what needs to be done to further improve what you have achieved today is a crucial step in the continuous improvement process. This could involve seeking feedback, learning new skills, or taking on new challenges to help you grow and reach your full potential. By asking yourself this question, you are taking an active role in your personal and professional development.

Example:

To further improve the presentation, I need to gather feedback from my colleagues and make necessary changes. To improve my reading habit, I need to set aside time each day to read and take notes. To improve my walking habit, I need to invest in a pedometer or a fitness tracker to monitor my progress and make necessary adjustments.

Conclusion:

Getting such a habit of asking yourself regularly and thinking about most actions you already took during the day will add retention power. Further having some time to reflect on such actions before going to sleep will keep fresh those tasks and ideas for whom you might decide on what is actually needed the next day. By following this fundamental step, you are able to accurately assess your daily activities and achievements, which in turn helps you to identify areas for improvement and prioritize your tasks for the next day.

You will also notice that some actions such as folding your bedsheet, brushing your teeth, etc which are mostly done in a particular way for a long time might also have some faults or incompleteness which do happen unconsciously, however through this regular questioning on daily actions it can help you to, get those identified and get corrected consciously. I understand that asking yourself such small tasks/habits daily can be overwhelming, but the idea is not to ask yourself how to fold a bedsheet daily. However, ask yourself at least once or twice such different questions, improvise, and then move on to more important questions. You will be able to find gaps, and also consequently work towards more important tasks in a refined way. Further, not to forget the immense advantage in retention power and corresponding memory enhancement it can bring it to your life.

Also note that, you do not have to stick to those 4 questions, but more importantly you have to build the practise of asking questions that will mostly fit you. Remember, its the habit that needs to be engraved in your daily routine.

The above seems to work for me, but for you, there might be something more or less. Such a simple habit of asking yourself can bring immense positivity to your daily life and boost your productivity, as you are able to stay organized, focused, and motivated to achieve your goals. Give it a try and see the positive impact it has on your life. 👍👍👍
