How to Find Your Purpose Financially

The three questions you need to ask before it is too late

Most of us want to make money and fill our lives with the things we are passionate about.

There are three things we need to keep in mind to find some purpose in the process of making money.

Most of us do not think about all three things at the same time and thus financial purpose is not clear.

The reason for this is that we usually have a certain personality type that requires the development of the other parts. This is part of the fun of growing up in my opinion.

Three important questions to ask

1. Do you have fun working on your project?

2. Does it or will it pay well?

3. Will you still enjoy doing this 10 years from now? Is it sustainable?

I have done a number of silly things along my entrepreneurial journey, some days I still think “what am I doing?, yet I have learned that working on too many things at the same time only does the following:

[a] You lose focus

[b] You distribute your energy, making it hard to gain perspective

[c] You become confused more easily

[d] You meet people and situations that make it harder to ‘escape’ all the extra things because of the relationships that you form,

[e] …thus you spend time, precious time

There are no billionaires out there who made their first billion from 10 different businesses.

Right?

It usually came from one business idea that they saw through.

Why do 10 mediocre things when you can do one really great thing?

It is all about the choices we make in life. If we are mentally clear then will know what we should be working on right now.

Ask yourself these three questions:

Is this going to make me happy in 10 years?

Is this the most profitable thing to do over 10 years?

If this doesn’t work out in 10 years, will I still be happy?

If you keep these three things in mind you have a better chance to be certain that you are making a good financial decision.

If something makes you happy you will get good at it.

If something makes you happy, you can stay focused.

Entrepreneurs start businesses left, right, and center, not many stay the course.

They don’t achieve what they want because they are not really enjoying what they do.

Ok so you want money now and there is a number of things you can do to get that money, yet if you don’t enjoy doing them, then you are shooting yourself in the foot.

Why?

This is your life. You need to take care of all the moments.

I am really bad at doing anything that I don’t enjoy. I just can’t. Nowadays I don’t even attempt, as I can’t fool myself.

This is where intuition comes in. Your feelings tell you what is your highest excitement and IT IS NOT BASED ON LOGIC.

This is a really great read about finding your highest excitement and living a life without regret.

When we work on too many things at the same time we are pulled in different directions and our energy is split amongst these things.

If you do something which makes money now, yet will leave you dissatisfied in 10 years, you need to realize that you will be living at the end of the 10 years and then you might regret that you did not choose what you really wanted to do 10 years before.

When we are young we don’t think like this.

I started a business in Neurofeedback and it failed. Partly also because I did it with my romantic partner of the time and the whole thing fell flat. I also was not fundamentally passionate about it, even though I practised Neurofeedback privately after.

When I started You, Me and Happiness it was different. Finding the answer to fulfillment was my sole mission, my most important goal I wanted to achieve since I was 16 years old.

It took me 10 years to accomplish my goal and now many more to build the business.

I know I won’t give up unless I don’t enjoy it anymore, that’s why I also think carefully about everything. I get many opportunities, yet if it doesn’t feel right I don’t take them.

Many people have trouble making decisions as they are scared of taking a risk. You can’t be an entrepreneur and not be ok with risk.

Ask yourself, if I chase this dream and things don’t go according my expectation, will I still be happy?

That’s why I encourage anyone to find the answer to happiness first and foremost. It just makes sense to me.

Everything that came after is a bonus.

Yes, I get frustrated as did I start building my business ‘late’ in my life, yet I don’t regret it because true fulfillment is more important to me.

I don’t believe in ‘insurance’, yet I suppose being happy is my version of life insurance.

At the end of days, you only care about the important things right?

There is not really something like risk-free opportunities, yet you can be proud if you pursued something you enjoyed and gave it your best shot irrespective of how long it takes.

If you persist and if you are sure it is your highest excitement it will pay off.

You can look around you at the average person’s life, doing things they don’t enjoy.

Don’t settle for a mediocre sort of happiness and for temporary comfort.

If you have not started a business you can plan it out, say you want to own a restaurant. Think about a 10-year plan.

You can go and work in a restaurant the same as the one you want to own. You can do that for one year, work your way up and learn all the ropes.

You can take courses and do training to make sure you have all the skills. You can invest some of your money to have the funding later.

Conclusion

Head in the direction that you will not regret later, if you don’t you will end up in some weird place.

If you choose to only do something profitable, that which you don’t enjoy, you are setting yourself up for regret in later life.

Ask these three questions to find financial purpose.

1. Do I have fun working on this project?

2. Does it or will it pay well?

3. Will I still enjoy doing this 10 years from now? Is it sustainable?
