Read these tips to gain followers and build your readership quickly.

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” -William Arthur Ward
I am just going to say it, I love following people and seeing them follow me. Thank you to all my amazing followers!
A daily joy is pulling up my profile and perusing my followers list. I enjoy seeing new faces and reading new stories.
I started writing on February 1, 2023, with an audience of zero, and six weeks later I have an audience of 350+. I was worried about starting at zero but one kind soul, Sampath, followed me right away. While some people may pshaw 350+ followers because they have thousands, I am super excited about it!
I grew an audience organically and I continually do the things I suggest in the article below on how to gain followers. Luckily, the number continues to grow.
My most-read article, and something I highly recommend, is to write an introduction. I love reading those and be sure to mention me so I can read yours. Use mine below as a guide, but unlike me, make sure you make it into the photo!
In my introduction, I mentioned I ate rattlesnake and I‘ve been waiting for someone to ask me about it. Windgurl finally did. It tastes like chicken…well, not good chicken.
My journey on Medium has been amazing so far because the community is truly supportive. I fully admit becoming a member was the best $50 I’ve ever spent. I’ve read so many stories, made new friends, and met some of the coolest and most interesting people.

In just a few weeks, I’ve been included in publications such as Midform, The Shortform, and How to Increase Your Followers Number. However, I know I am scratching the surface with publications on Medium and I hope to publish in many more.
I’ve also had the privilege of collaborating with other writers. Francisco Iglesias included me in his article below and wrote the most incredible intro for me. I swear I want to stop people on the street and read it to them!
But, I am sure you are reading this article to get new ideas. So without further ado, here are 10 helpful tips for newbies and a few things I wish I would have done from day one.
10 Helpful Tips for Newbies
Tip #1: When you first log on to Medium each day, go to your followers list under your profile and follow all the people who followed you. That way, you won’t miss anyone. I like to follow people who follow me. They read my stories and I read theirs.
Tip #2: If you need to gain 100 followers for the Medium Partner Program, read this article. You can also find many other stories and publications on the subject by typing 100 followers into the Medium search bar.
Tip #3: Write a personal introduction for your feed. It is my most-read article to date. Hopefully, this one surpasses it! Here is my story to use as a guide. You can also submit it to an “About Me” publication to increase readership here.
Tip #4: Sign up for a Medium membership if you haven’t done so already and use my referral link. Seriously, what are you waiting for? Medium is amazing.
Tip #5: Sign up to write for publications from the beginning and start submitting stories. Look for publications at the top of stories you enjoy reading or you can find more by using the Medium search bar. Robin Wilding 💎 created a super helpful guide with all the publications here. Thank you for saving us all time, Robin!
Tip #6: Collaborate with other writers. The whole point of Medium is to connect with other writers. Mention other writers by using the @ symbol and then start typing the name. It should come up automatically.
Tip #7: Read other writers’ stories and make thoughtful and supportive comments. Try to do 4–5 a day. I explain why it is important in my article here.
Tip #8: Clap and clap often. Did you know if you hold down the clap button it will add them quickly? I normally do 25 claps for stories I like and 50 claps for the ones that wow me. I refuse to be a one-clap wonder! I tend to be a cheerleader and supportive of others, so I do a lot of 25s and 50s.
Tip #9: You can find new writers in the comments section of stories you read daily, or in suggested stories found on the right side of your feed. You can also type anything, say Star Wars, into the search bar and find other writers to follow.
Tip #10: Write as many stories as you can. I am currently doing a challenge to write 30 stories in 30 days. Check out my article here on that subject. While I don't necessarily write an article each day, I plan to set a goal each month moving forward. You simply never know which story will be curated or pique someone’s interest. While some people hold fast to writing stories to rank higher on Google, I write what I enjoy at this point. I simply want to become a better writer, engage with others, and have a portfolio of stories to share.
Finally, Thank You to All My Followers
Thank you so much for following me on this journey. I look forward to reading your stories and learning more about you. You are some of the coolest and most interesting people on the planet!
