My 30-Day Plan for Success on Medium
A step-by-step plan to double readership, engagement, and followers.

Is it possible to double readership, engagement, and followers on Medium in just one month?
I think it is possible and I always enjoy testing a theory. Keep in mind, I started writing on Medium with an audience of zero, so building engagement is a worthy endeavor.
I did a lot of research on Medium and developed a plan to grow my engagement in a fairly organic way. I’ll also share my progress with you and any additional tips I learned.
Engagement is Key
I love to write and I write almost every day. But lately, I have taken time off from writing to get my work life moving in the right direction.
However, I noticed my engagement on Medium slipped when I stepped away for a bit. Not a far drop, just a little less activity.
With Medium, I love the engagement with other writers and the community as a whole. Plus, I am not going to lie, I enjoy following people and them following me. I truly enjoy having a following tab full of options.
So, before sharing my step-by-step plan for greater engagement, let me give you my current stats as a baseline.
My Current Baseline Stats for Medium
I started writing on Medium on February 1, 2023, and I joined the Medium Partner Program (MPP) on March 1st. If you are trying to reach the MPP, check out my story about getting 100 followers below.
My follower number at the time of this writing is 278. Thank you so much for following me! Below are my monthly follower stats.

Below are my Medium stats on views, reads, and fans.

I’ve had 621 views, 356 reads, and 184 fans in the last 30 days. I also have one subscriber. Thank you to everyone for your incredible support and engagement!
Finally, I have 10 published stories before today’s post (not counting today which makes 11).
Engagement Goals
My engagement goals over the next 30 days are fairly straightforward based on my current baseline stats.
1. Reach 500 followers. I am at 278 now so it seems fairly doable based on my history, but you can never leave things to chance. Keep in mind, it took six weeks to get to 278 so it’s not a lock.
2. Double my views, reads, and fans. For ease, that would be 1,242 views, 712 reads, and 368 fans. Those make me a little nervous but let’s see what posting regularly can do.
3. Write 30 stories from March 15th to April 15th. Today’s story is day one of thirty. My plan is to post a new story each day but it is not the end of the world if I miss a day. As long as I make 30 for the month, I will be happy.
Next, let me share what I plan to do to drive engagement in a fairly organic way.
A Step-By-Step Plan to Grow on Medium
For the next 30 days, here is my daily plan.
- When I launch Medium each day, I’ll go to my follower list under my profile and follow all the people who followed me. I do have an exception and I wrote about it here.
2. I will respond to everyone who leaves a comment on my stories from the day before. Medium is a social platform so this is a must do activity. If someone takes the time to write something, it deserves a response.
3. I will read at least 5 stories from writers on my feed and leave thoughtful comments. I really enjoy this part and I want to support other writers.
4. I will look for 25 people who have less than 300 followers and follow them. Hopefully, they will follow me back but I never know if they will connect with my content.
5. Finally, I will write one new story each day for 30 days and publish it to my feed or submit to a publication.
Conclusion
That is my plan for the next 30 days. I am incredibly fascinated by how Medium works and I look forward to testing out this plan of action. As a new writer, everything is a learning curve.
Thank you so much for reading this far and I will leave you with this quote from Elenor Roosevelt, “It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.”
