Summary

Alana Rister, Ph.D., is participating in a 30-day writing challenge, aiming to write and submit one article to a different Medium publication each day, with the goal of increasing followers and income.

Abstract

Alana Rister, Ph.D., has committed to a 30-day writing challenge inspired by David Majister, where she will write and submit 30 articles to 30 different Medium publications over the course of a month. Her objectives include doubling her follower count to 144 and doubling her income from the previous month to approximately $46. The challenge also serves as an opportunity to connect with other writers and editors, as well as to write for publications she has been interested in. Alana has outlined her plan, the rules of the challenge, and a list of potential publications she intends to submit to, while also emphasizing the importance of maintaining her sanity and writing habit throughout the process.

Opinions

  • Alana believes that this challenge will help her develop as a writer and expand her professional network.
  • She is optimistic about the potential to increase her income and follower count through this endeavor.
  • Alana acknowledges the importance of choosing publications that align with her interests and comfort zones to maintain enthusiasm and avoid burnout.
  • She recognizes that not all articles will be published within the 30-day window due to the varying review times of different publications.
  • Alana is open to sharing her journey and connecting with others who are taking on the same challenge, suggesting a sense of community and mutual support among writers.

30 Articles. 30 Publications. 30 Days.

I pledging to join David Majister’s 30-Day writing challenge.

I will be writing 30 articles in 30 days and submitting one article to a publication per day.

*This story will be updated with my published articles throughout the month*

Challenge Rules

  • You have to submit each article to a different publication.
  • Each day submit one new article.
  • The publication does not matter.
  • You do not have to write an article each day.
  • The article should follow the publication's guidelines.
  • If an article is rejected, submit it to a new publication. (This does not count as an additional submission.)

(These are paraphrased from David Majister’s article)

My Plan

During this next month, I will be writing many different articles. I may write articles that are outside of this challenge, i.e. submitted to the same publication. However, my articles for the challenge will be my priority.

I am excited for this challenge as I will be able to write for some publications that I have wanted to but have been neglecting.

I will be adding links to my stories once published at the bottom of this story.

I will be counting my stories on two different accounts.

  • Alana Rister, Ph.D. (@alanarister) is my account that discusses business, marketing, content creation, and personal development.
  • Alana Rister (@alanalrister) is my personal account that I discuss so many different things.

Planned Publications

If you are interested in taking part in this challenge and are unsure of what publications to submit to, here is a list of 20 publications that I am currently hoping to submit to:

Many of these publications are friendly to new writers and I am already a writer for most of them. Your articles need to be well written and a good fit for each publication though.

Maintaining my sanity

This may seem like a very large amount of writing for 30 days. I am not a full-time writer. Therefore, I think it is important to focus on maintaining my sanity and not burning out in 30 days.

An important part of this challenge is submitting one article a day. This does not mean that one article is published a day. Some publications take longer to publish or to be approved as a writer. Therefore, some articles may be published outside of the 30-Day window, but the goal is to have the initial submission of one article a day for 30 days.

Another way to maintain my sanity is that I am choosing publications that I have been wanting to write for. I am not attempting to write in genres that I do not feel comfortable with.

Lastly, I write on average about an article a day. Therefore, this challenge is not outside my normal writing habit. If you are only writing an article a week, you can adapt this challenge to just submitting your articles to a different publication for 30 days, even if it is not an article a day.

My Goal

My goal through this challenge is to develop as a writer and connect with other writers.

By publishing in multiple publications, I am hoping to connect with many different writers and editors, including those mentioned above, which I already follow.

My goal is also to increase my follower count. David Majister suggested that he wanted to add 250 followers through this challenge. Since he has a much larger audience than I do, I am hoping to double my current follower count to 144 followers.

My last goal is to double my income from February as well. Therefore, I am hoping to make around $46 in March.
