Self-Improvement: Intuition — #ILLUMINATION
3 Benefits of Getting in Touch with Your Inner Self
Why you should practice journaling or Morning Pages.
What do you do when a story refuses to come out? Do you abandon it, or do you put it aside for later?
Earlier today, I read a piece by Elise on A Few Words. It was titled A Writer’s Nightmare. If you’re thinking writer’s block, you may not be far off. However, this is a different problem.
Elise said that she had 116 stories in her draft folder. I only have 41. How many do you have? She had a suggestion and a challenge.
So, I’m going to challenge you and myself to edit, finish and post your drafts while we’re all in lockdown, think of it as the spring cleaning for writers.
One of the things she suggested was to cut and paste parts of unfinished drafts to come up with something cohesive. My friend Srinivas Rao does that from time to time.
Srini writes a thousand words every day. He says that occasionally he finds a sentence or two in there that will lead him to a full-blown article.
He is a big fan of Julia Cameron’s Morning Pages, as am I. I wrote about it in a story a little while back. First thing in the morning, you set a timer for say 30 minutes and start writing, and you don’t stop it the timer goes off.
You can ramble on without any direction and dump your thoughts on to the screen or the paper, whichever your choice writing method is. It lets you create what Ann Lamott calls the first shitty draft. It is not journaling, but it is in some way.
Here is a gem I found in one of my drafts.
Intuition is our willingness to consciously connect with the Omniscient Presence of All That Is. ~Rasheed Hooda
That’s why journaling is an excellent tool for self-development.
My Three Takeaways
1When you journal, you allow your inner self to enter into your flow. You are simply writing whatever comes to your mind. You are not creating anything; you’re dumping your thoughts onto paper.
2Morning Pages is an excellent exercise because your mind is still fresh after the night’s sleep. The daily routine or responsibility hasn’t taken over your thoughts, thus enabling you to stay in touch with your inner self.
3Even if you don’t write professionally, it allows you to develop discipline and grants you access to the part of you that knows more than you think. You are developing a habit of connecting with your intuition, which mysteriously guides you to reach your goals.

As always, thank you for reading.
