23 Things I Learned in 2023
Let me know which ones resonate…

2023 is a special year. The year started with me setting the intention of having more fun.
And I had so much! With family, friends, at work, through writing, and by learning.
These are the lessons which will stay with me :
- Health comes first. Don’t place it after family and other goals.
- We can change any behavior in a day, from the day we truly decide to change.
- Giving more is the secret to getting more. Choose the right people to give to.
- Ask for specific feedback on one area of improvement vs. making a generic request. It helps you focus on what matters. Pick one area to improve each quarter and not more.
- Pain and pleasure are two sides of a coin. Focus on understanding both to get the best outcomes from yourself and others.
- If it happened, it’s a fact and not bragging. Review your wins weekly and showcase the best ones.
- The way to make an impact is to use your strengths more actively. Assess it daily.
- Consistency is the common link to any success. Remain consistent with writing — 3X weekly on LinkedIn, 2X weekly on Medium and 2–3 tweets a day.
- You go towards your values. To change where you want to go, start with your values. Use my values of 4Cs: Courage, Consistency, Creativity & Community in all my decisions.
- Say ‘thanks for your patience’ instead of ‘sorry’.
- Devote time to tasks that tie in to a larger long-term goal.
- Always discern people based on if they listen, are willing to be wrong and if they do what they said they will. Don’t judge them as you don’t know their story.
- Work a room before you enter it to share an idea, i.e. get to the root of what the audience wants.
- Any time spent in the past is not adding value to the present or the future. Review progress weekly.
- We don’t do things to hurt other people but to save ourselves. Use this mindset to forgive others and yourself.
- Call it out and share feelings when hurt, but do it nicely, considering the other person’s perspective.
- The more you respond vs. react, the better the outcomes are. Review your actions daily, focusing on what to improve the next day.
- When you seem to be stuck, it’s your cue to take a step back.
- Mixed results indicate further clarity is required in your mind on your goal.
- Community can support you in learning and improving at any skill.
- Say no to priorities in the plural. Priority implies focus on the most important goal.
- Say no to being indifferent to anyone. If it happens unintentionally, apologize.
- Say no to ‘compromising’ in any situation. It’s not in your DNA, you don’t like it.
I’d love to hear your reflections on what you learned. Please share in the comments.
