200 Articles and $250 Later
I never thought I would earn money from writing articles

Nine months ago, the thought of writing even a single article never crossed my mind, let alone making any money from it. Yet, here I am.
This journey from writing my first article on Medium to writing around 10 a week has been enlightening, and I’m eager to share how this has helped me improve my writing skills and increase my output without sacrificing quality.
Learning
Initially, the biggest hurdle was overcoming the fear of nobody reading. Writing, like any other skill, has a learning curve. I had a plan — I read articles, books, and essays and got an idea of what worked and what didn’t.
This not only improved my understanding of different writing styles but also expanded my understanding of the platform and my comprehension of what I could write about. The key lesson here was to be patient and to view each piece of writing as a step towards improvement.
Routine
One of the most significant changes I made was establishing a consistent writing routine. Writing at the same time each day helped condition my mind to be in ‘writing mode’ more naturally and reduced the effort needed to start writing.
I woke up and wrote for an hour, , gradually increasing this time. Consistency was crucial — it’s better to write a little every day than to try and write a lot in one day and burn out.
Research
Good writing is often well-informed writing. Initially, I spent hours on research, getting lost in information. Over time, I developed a more structured approach to research. I learned to identify credible sources quickly and take effective notes. This made the actual writing process smoother and more efficient, as I had all the information I needed from the beginning
Be Mindful
Mindfulness in writing means is a big part of my process as well as understanding my thoughts and feelings as I write.
This helped me overcome constant blocks and the anxiety associated with creating something. I could see where I was struggling and why, which allowed me to address issues directly, whether they required more research, a clearer outline, or just a break to clear my head.
Editing
Improving my editing skills was a came in time. Initially, I found it hard to cut down my work without constantly re-writing my entire article. However, editing is where good writing becomes better writing.
I learned to be emotionless with my drafts, cutting out unnecessary words, simplifying sentences, and ensuring aa better flow. In time I got better at identify areas for improvement, making the editing process more efficient.
Feedback
Feedback is invaluable if it is constructive. Sharing my work on Medium, provided me with different perspectives. To be fair, I’ve never received criticism on Medium as most people who leave comments leave a ‘great article’ comment.
It does spur you on but at the same time isn’t ideal when you are trying to improve.
Diversify
One reason I can now write ten articles a week is my decision to diversify my writing topics.
Instead of writing solely about Day Trading, I write about other things that interest me.
This not only kept the writing process interesting but also expanded my skill set and audience. By challenging myself to write outside my comfort zone, I improved significantly in research, adaptability, and creativity.
In Short
Looking back, I never imagined earning $50 a month from writing about things I enjoy writing about.
I never thought I would still be here.
But here I am.
It wasn’t an overnight transformation but a gradual process fueled by a willingness to learn, and a disciplined approach to practice and improvement.
For anyone starting on their writing journey, remember that every word you write brings you closer to the writer you aspire to be. Embrace the challenges, celebrate the milestones, and never stop learning.
Your unique voice and stories are needed in the world, so keep writing, keep improving, and let your words make an impact.
