Genius in a Bottle’s fortnightly list of published pieces

Dear geniuses,

I was going to write about something else and then I received news that was both sad and happy.

This publication was conceived and created by Jay Squires, a wonderful man and writer, who wanted to give thoughtful writers and imaginative thinkers a place where they could publish their thoughts. He wanted a publication where jewels in the rough could read and develop their unique writing abilities, and have their stories sit among grand works of unique origin.

Fittingly, he called this publication Genius in a Bottle. A publication that is bursting with potential that is too unique and intelligent for the mainstream. Works of profound thought and soul that preferred to remain distinguished rather than be dissolved in the floodwaters of published material.

He was eighty years old when he set out on this ambition and he recruited me as an editor in my first year on Medium. He published my stories and encouraged my humble thoughts expressed in words. I respected him greatly for the kind-hearted person he was and is. And I joined GiaB as its second editor.

Age started to catch up to dear old Jay and he passed the responsibility of piloting this publication to me. He still stayed on and did plenty of editing work on the side lines. He published the fortnightly published lists and he oversaw the Genius of the Month Awards shortlisting.

Age has finally caught up with our dear creator and now we bid him the fondest of farewells as he finally rests his weary self into his armchair with a good book and a strong beverage. He has other journeys to walk and we wish him nothing but success in all of those endeavours.

Many of you have benefitted from Jay’s editing. I pray you keep him in your hearts and wish him well with all the love and gratitude he deserves. — Victor Sarkin
